Using field pumps to prevent flooding
On the afternoon of July 18, speaking with Dan Viet, Mr. Vu Van Tan - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kim Son district said: "In the past few days, there has been heavy rain in Kim Son district, the average rainfall on July 14 was 11.2mm; and at 7am on July 17 it was 100.8mm... causing the planted rice area to be completely flooded."

Specifically, as of July 16, the entire Kim Son district had planted 2,081 hectares of winter-spring rice. Of which, the area of transplanted rice was 1,788 hectares, the area of direct-seeded rice was 293 hectares. Prolonged heavy rain combined with high water levels on rivers flooded the entire newly planted rice area.
Mr. Vu Van Tan added that due to the heavy rain causing flooding of the entire newly planted rice area, Kim Son district has implemented a plan to prevent flooding.

For the Kim Son District Irrigation Works Exploitation Branch, pumping stations such as Chat Thanh, Kim Dai, Phat Diem, Con Thoi have been operated with 29 units, total capacity of 116,000m3/h.
Agricultural cooperatives alone operate 27 in-line pumps and 28 field pumps with a total capacity of about 108,000m3/h.

In addition, open the sluices on the dike to take advantage of tidal drainage when the tide is low. At the same time, operate all pumping stations in the district to prevent flooding for newly planted rice fields, as well as drain water to serve the planting of the remaining areas to ensure the crop schedule.
Prepare seeds for additional planting
Talking to Dan Viet , Mr. Vu Van Tan - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kim Son district said: "To protect the winter-spring rice production, the People's Committees of the communes directed agricultural cooperatives to mobilize all resources and means, and zone off areas for pumping and draining to prevent flooding for 100% of the planted rice area."

Agricultural cooperatives urge and guide people to prepare seeds for additional planting in case they have to replant; take measures to care for and protect the sown rice seedlings, and plant immediately when the fields are dry to ensure the season.
In addition, assign staff to be on duty at pumping stations and culverts 24/7; organize full capacity operation of all pumping stations to drain water in the canal system.

Assign technical staff to the grassroots level, closely follow the area to guide agricultural cooperatives and people on technical measures for soaking and incubating seedlings, techniques for caring for and protecting sown seedlings and newly planted rice.
