An inspector returned a gift of 2 million VND.

On November 15, news from the People's Committee of Ca Mau province said that there had just been a report on anti-corruption work in 2023, which stated that an inspector of Ngoc Hien District Inspectorate returned a gift of 2 million VND. The above amount is being processed to be returned to the state budget.

The authorities of Ca Mau province also randomly selected 23 people to verify their income and assets. Thereby, they directed 10 people to learn from their experiences, reviewed 13 people to learn from their experiences; considered collecting additional taxes on the difference in real estate transaction declarations of more than 4.8 billion VND, and collected nearly 2 billion VND.

Also according to the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, although through the monitoring, inspection and internal self-inspection activities of agencies, organizations and units under its management, no cases with signs of corruption have been detected, but through inspection, 3 cases with signs of corruption have been detected.

Specifically, the incident occurred at the compensation and site clearance council for the Phan Ngoc Hien Road Construction Investment Project (Phu Tan District); the embezzlement of assets at the Economic - Infrastructure Department of Phu Tan District; and the violation in the implementation of the rice land development and support program at the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thoi Binh District.

In addition, through reflections and reports on corruption and the handling of complaints and denunciations, 7 cases with signs of corruption were discovered. These were cases of forgery in work occurring at the People's Committees of Khanh Binh Commune, Phong Lac Commune (Tran Van Thoi District), Phu Tan Commune (Phu Tan District), Tan Bang Commune (Thoi Binh District); the case of embezzlement of Covid-19 support money in Khanh Hoi Commune (Minh District); the case of taking advantage of position and power while performing official duties at the Tax Department of Region 3 (Tran Van Thoi District); the case of abuse of position and power to appropriate property at the Tax Department of Region 1 (Ngoc Hien District).

The report of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province also shows that in the past year, no heads of agencies, organizations, or units in the locality have been held accountable for corruption. At the same time, it is acknowledged that the work of self-inspection and detection of corruption within agencies, organizations, and units in the province is still limited, without clear changes, and very few cases have been discovered through internal self-inspection.
