>> Mu Cang Chai strives to finish sowing spring rice before February 25
Mr. Luong Van Thu - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Mu Cang Chai district said: "In the spring crop of 2025, Mu Cang Chai district planted 1,671 hectares and divided into 2 planting seasons, the first planting season is the communes of zones III, IV and Mu Cang Chai town with lower terrain; the second planting season is the communes of zones I, II due to higher terrain, water sources and colder climate. In order for spring rice to grow and develop well, with high productivity and output, these days, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of the district has proactively sent staff to the grassroots to coordinate with localities to urge and mobilize farmers to regularly visit the fields, ensure irrigation water, regulate water levels according to each age and development stage of the rice plant and weed, fertilize, care for and prevent rice pests and diseases according to instructions".
In the spring crop of 2025, Mu Cang Chai district has a similar structure with over 70% of the cultivated area using hybrid rice varieties such as Nhi Uu 838, Viet Lai 20, DD2, DD1, TH6... for high yield, good quality, especially short growing time, not affecting the crop calendar; the rest is cultivated with high-quality pure rice varieties.
Mr. Sung A Pao in De Sua village, Lao Chai commune shared: "My family has about 7 sao of terraced fields. To have enough rice for the whole family all year round and to promote livestock farming, for more than ten years now, my family has been planting all the fields with 2 crops/year. This spring crop, I planted all the short-term hybrid rice variety Nhi Uu 838. Thanks to proactively planting seedlings early and planting tea before Tet, I proactively go to the fields every day, check, and keep enough water, so now the rice is green and growing strongly. I have also finished fertilizing for the first time and spraying pesticides. I have also prepared nitrogen and potassium so that in early April, when the rice is about to harden into panicles, I will apply the last fertilizer to help the rice plants have enough nutrients to grow panicles to achieve productivity and quality."
In addition to the localities that planted tea first, in the fields of the communes of Zone I that planted tea later, farmers are also focusing on entering the stage of actively caring for spring rice.
Mr. Chang A Chu in Co Mong village, Nam Co commune said: "Currently, the weather is in the transitional period, the sun and rain are erratic, plants and grasses begin to grow strongly, so pests and plant diseases also multiply. Therefore, along with actively visiting the fields, bringing water into the fields, regulating the water level appropriately, proactively fertilizing for the first time, weeding and stirring the mud so that the rice plants do not choke the roots, I also regularly check for diseases such as leaf blight, rice blast, leaf rollers, planthoppers, and spiders that harm rice to detect early, prevent and control in time, helping the rice grow and develop well."
Along with the initiative in farmers' production, to achieve the target of productivity and output of spring crops according to the plan, the District People's Committee always pays attention to directing specialized departments and offices to coordinate with communes and towns to propagate, mobilize and guide farmers on care techniques such as: regulating water levels for rice reasonably; types of fertilizers for each stage of rice development with the prescribed dosage for each unit area and increasing the use of organic fertilizers, microbial fertilizers, and trace elements; experience in distinguishing pests, diseases and solutions, types of pesticides to prevent pests, diseases, and weeds appropriately to bring high efficiency. In particular, the district has directed functional branches to coordinate well in inspecting and supervising units, stores supplying and retailing materials, fertilizers, and pesticides to ensure the quality and quantity of materials, meeting the needs of farmers.
With the attention and direction of management work, close guidance on care techniques from functional sectors, and above all, the initiative in cultivation and care of crops by farmers is an important basis for the 2025 spring crop in Mu Cang Chai district to ensure success.
