Alejandro Garnacho is one of the brightest young talents at MU in recent years. The 21-year-old Argentine winger received a lot of expectations at Old Trafford, but he was unexpectedly pushed to the transfer market by MU because he did not fit the tactics of coach Ruben Amorim.
The relationship between the two sides broke down at the end of last season, after Garnacho was benched for the European Cup Winners' Cup final against Tottenham. In the summer of 2025, MU immediately removed Garnacho from the first team squad, excluded the striker from the summer tour and banned him from training with the first team.
For the past 2 months, MU has been looking for a partner to recruit Garnacho with an expected price of 70 million pounds. After that, MU continuously reduced the request to 60 million pounds and 50 million pounds. They received a number of offers, but no deal happened because Garnacho only wanted to move to Chelsea. Garnacho's representative continuously sent messages to the media about the striker's wishes. This is the reason why the Red Devils were forced by The Blues at the negotiating table.
Chelsea had been pursuing Garnacho since January 2025 but soon gave up because MU demanded too much. This time, they only offered £25 million plus a player exchange but MU rejected. The deal quieted down for a while and the two sides began to discuss more when the summer transfer market was about to close.
In the end, MU had to "give in" to Garnacho and Chelsea, accepting to sell the Argentine striker at a much lower price than expected. Reliable sources in England said that the two clubs had reached an agreement to transfer Garnacho for 40 million pounds. The young Argentine star will sign a 7-year contract with Chelsea.
MU managed to add a clause to receive 10% of the difference if Chelsea sold Garnacho for a higher price in the future, but this is considered an insignificant number. In fact, this clause will be invalid if Garnacho fails and is liquidated by Chelsea for a cheaper price.
Garnacho joined United's academy from Atletico Madrid in October 2020. He was promoted to the first team at the end of the 2021/22 season and made more appearances in the following years. In total, Garnacho played 144 games for United, scoring 26 goals and helping the club win two trophies (the 2023 Carabao Cup and the 2024 FA Cup).
