The Sun says United cannot meet Donnarumma's wage demands, believed to be in excess of £210,000 a week, which he is currently earning at PSG. The "Red Devils" are aware that the goalkeeper role is not a priority in the transfer market at the moment.
The move opens the door for Manchester City and Chelsea, who are both interested in the Italy international. Both clubs have deep pockets and could make more attractive offers.
Donnarumma's contract extension with PSG is currently at an impasse, leading many to speculate that he could leave in the summer transfer window. The 26-year-old goalkeeper has just one year left on his contract with the Parc des Princes team.
PSG have also recently agreed to sign goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille for a fee of nearly £40 million. The Champions League champions see him as an ideal replacement if Donnarumma leaves the club.
As for MU, the team is looking to recruit another striker and a midfielder in this summer transfer window. Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) and Benjamin Sesko (Leipzig) are in the Red Devils' sights. MU seems to be leaning towards Watkins because he has experience playing in the Premier League.
