MU will not lose the 'second Caicedo'

MU completed the deal to recruit Cristian Orozco, a player considered one of the most promising young talents in South America today.

Cristian Orozco is the captain of Colombia U17.

The 17-year-old defensive midfielder only joined Fortaleza in early 2024 but quickly caught the attention of many European giants. MU decided to act early to avoid a regrettable scenario like the case of Moises Caicedo.

In 2020, the "Red Devils" withdrew from the deal due to problems with the transfer fee of 5.5 million pounds and procedures with the agent. In the end, Caicedo moved to Chelsea two and a half years later for a record 115 million pounds.

According to FIFA regulations, Orozco will wear the MU shirt from July 2026 when he turns 18. Before that, the young player had 9 appearances for Colombia U17 in 2024 and made a strong impression with his blocking ability, good physical strength and leadership qualities.

This is a new step in MU's strategy of recruiting South American talent under Director of Football Jason Wilcox. Last summer, the Old Trafford team also brought in 18-year-old left-back Diego Leon, and is closely monitoring Dan Sinate, a 19-year-old Malian talent on the payroll of Angers.

Along with that, MU restructured the scouting system, cutting from more than 100 scouts to 10, giving more power to Director of Scouting Christopher Vivell. The streamlining helps the club act more decisively and effectively in the transfer market.

In the context of a disastrous 2024/25 season when finishing 15th in the Premier League, MU is trying to rebuild. They spent a lot of money on Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko. However, the performance has not improved as the team has only won 2 matches since the beginning of the season and just lost 1-3 to Brentford.
