MU lost a lot of money on Rashford and Garnacho.

Manchester United face the prospect of having to spend millions of pounds to let players leave Old Trafford in the summer 2025 transfer window.

Rashford earns over £300,000 per week at MU.

According to the Telegraph , Manchester United faces a complex financial dilemma as they seek to offload players who are no longer in manager Ruben Amorim's plans. Players like Marcus Rashford, Sancho, and Antony, all with contracts running until 2028, are expected to require Manchester United to pay contract termination fees or a portion of their salaries even if they move to rival clubs this summer.

The fact that these players receive high salaries – for example, Jadon Sancho earns over £200,000 a week – means Man United face significant costs if they want to terminate their contracts or loan them out to other clubs next season.

With manager Amorim looking to overhaul the squad, Manchester United would have to spend millions of pounds on contract compensation or pay a portion of Sancho, Rashford, and Antony's salaries if they want these three players to leave Old Trafford this summer.

This stems from the fact that teams wanting to buy or loan these players are often unwilling to pay the full high salaries they are receiving at MU. For example, in the loan deal for Rashford to Aston Villa last season, Villa only paid 75% of his salary, with the possibility of increasing to 90% depending on performance.

Similarly, Real Betis paid 84% of Antony's salary when they loaned the Brazilian striker for the 2024/25 season. Currently, Manchester United are trying to negotiate a reduction in this cost, but without success.

Their negotiating position was significantly weakened by the urgent need to offload players. Publicly declaring their intention to let players go made it difficult for Man United to secure favorable terms.

For example, in Garnacho's case, the Argentine striker's open rebellion and dissatisfaction with manager Amorim made it difficult for MU to negotiate a high-priced permanent transfer. MU valued Alejandro Garnacho at over £60 million, but they might only be able to sell the striker for tens of millions of pounds less.
