MU outlines new transfer plan if Baleba is lost

MU will turn to Sporting Lisbon midfielder Morten Hjulmand, in case they fail to lure Carlos Baleba away from Brighton.

Hjulmand was one of Ruben Amorim's favourite players during his time in Lisbon. It is worth noting that the Danish international's transfer fee was only half the price of Carlos Baleba.

Although Hjulmand's release clause is £68m, MU is confident they can convince Sporting to sell the 26-year-old midfielder for £50m, plus add-ons.

Baleba is still the top target for MU. However, Brighton values the Cameroonian player at a sky-high price of over 100 million pounds.

If Baleba cannot be recruited, Hjulmand is a more economical option and is very familiar with coach Ruben Amorim's playing style.

The Danish star shone in the 4-3-2-1 system that Amorim used at Sporting, winning two Portuguese championships and a Taca de Portugal.

After recruiting Hjulmand and appointing him as Sporting captain, coach Amorim highly appreciated his student's leadership qualities and football thinking.

Whether Hjulmand or Baleba arrive at Old Trafford at the end of the summer transfer window, one of them will start alongside Bruno Fernandes - who takes on a deeper role after the arrivals of Cunha and Mbeumo.
