According to the forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in 2025, the number of storms and tropical depressions (TPDs) operating in the East Sea and directly affecting our mainland is likely to be equivalent to the average of many years.

Faced with this situation, Buon Kuop Hydropower Company regularly checks the actual situation, organizes the operation and regulation of reservoirs to ensure the water demand in the downstream. At the same time, the company unifies the plan for operating and regulating water to reduce floods, contributing to reducing floods in the downstream area and ensuring the efficiency of power generation.

For more than 30 years living in the fertile land of Xuyen Phuoc village, Quang Phu commune, Lam Dong province, Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh has witnessed many floods sweeping away crops and houses here.

Mr. Lanh said: “In the past, when there were no hydroelectric reservoirs, every year people along both banks of the Krong No River had to flee from floods. Water from upstream suddenly poured down, submerging all crops ready for harvest, and houses in low-lying areas were swept away.”

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc - Deputy Director of Buon Kuop Hydropower Company (investor of Buon Tua Srah Hydropower), currently, the work of regulating water to run the machine and discharge to the downstream is carried out in accordance with the inter-reservoir operation process, ensuring the optimal exploitation plan according to the water flow situation to the reservoir. At the same time, the company also minimizes damage when there is rain and flood, avoiding passive situations in the process of water regulation.

The unit also organized inspections and prepared reports on dam and reservoir safety assessment in 2025 for the three hydropower projects Buon Tua Srah, Buon Kuop and Srepok 3. Along with that, the company also coordinated with localities to adjust coordination regulations, inspect flood escape corridors, and review coordination regulations with power plants in the same basin to be closely organized.

“To monitor the flood situation, local authorities at all levels need to disseminate to the people the electronic information page for monitoring reservoir operation parameters (https://buonkuop.vn:2016/pclb) and the warning siren and flood warning loudspeaker system in the downstream area so that people in the downstream area of the reservoir can monitor and proactively respond,” Mr. Nguyen Duc added.

In the rainy and flood season of 2025, according to forecasts, there will be 4-6 storms that will directly affect our mainland. Specifically, from now until the end of August, there will be about 2 storms, from September to December, there will be about 2-4 storms.
