• Economic efficiency from corn cultivation

The color fields of Quyet Tien Agricultural Services and Irrigation Cooperative are in the waxy corn harvest season.

The corn season is bustling right from the roadside, pots of boiled corn are often on fire, with fragrant, hot boiled corn, steaming.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut, My I Hamlet, was busy lighting a fire to boil corn in a roadside hut, saying: “This year the weather is favorable, many people in My I Hamlet have a good corn crop. My family's three hectares of corn fields are growing quickly and bearing fruit early. Fresh corn that has just been picked from the fields is boiled, hot and sweet, so it sells quite well. A dozen fresh corns sell for 50,000 VND, boiled corn for 60-70,000 VND, some days I sell 4-5 pots, each pot is about half a sack of corn, this crop I make a profit of over 10 million VND”.

Thanks to the job of growing and selling sticky corn, each crop, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut earns a profit of over 5 million VND.

Understanding the high demand for glutinous corn, Chau Van Dung and Nguyen Thuy Lan, in addition to boiling corn to sell, also invested in a small truck to go to the fields to buy corn and resell it to traders. Dung said that every day he buys over 2 tons of corn, and sells it to the market for a profit of 500-700 thousand VND.

Mr. Chau Van Dung buys over 2 tons of corn every day, earning from 500,000 to 700,000 VND.

Mr. Cao Binh Nghiep's family, My I hamlet, uses young corn and corn silk to sell, increasing income.

From the ineffective upland and alum fields for rice cultivation, the local agricultural sector has guided the conversion of production : selecting varieties, planting season, tilling, sowing, fertilizing, caring, and pest control. Farmers of the Quyet Tien Agricultural Service and Irrigation Cooperative, My I Hamlet have boldly converted the ineffective rice growing model to growing vegetables such as squash, cucumber, etc., especially OCOP-standard sticky corn. From there, there is a source of quality agricultural products that meet the consumption needs of the market, contributing to increasing income and improving people's lives.

In addition to corn, corn by-products are also used as food and medicine.
