Heavy rain, 70 households in Luong Thinh commune had to evacuate overnight

From the night of July 23 to the early morning of July 24, heavy rains continued in Luong Thinh commune, Lao Cai province, with rainfall measuring up to 161.2mm. On the night of July 23, the Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control of Luong Thinh commune directed 100% of its members, police, military and shock troops to assist in evacuating 70 households at risk of flooding and landslides to safety.

Specifically, immediately after grasping the situation of areas at risk of flooding and landslides, the shock force went to each village to check and immediately supported the evacuation of 70 households in 13 villages (including 19 households in Vuc Tron village, 7 households in Luong Tam, 7 households in Yen Phu, 7 households in Quang Vinh, 8 households in Yen Dinh...) to the village cultural house, relatives' and neighbors' houses, which are places not at risk of landslides to ensure safety of life.

The Commune and Village Steering Committees for Disaster Prevention and Control also requested households not to return home on their own while the weather remains complicated.

According to statistics in the commune, heavy rain caused 7 households to be flooded with water and mud; 4 electric poles fell and tilted; 5 electric meters of households in Tran Hung village were flooded, causing danger; 20m of the fence of Hung Thinh Primary and Secondary School collapsed.

Traffic infrastructure was also severely affected. National Highway 37 through Village 4 suffered a 55m landslide.

Heavy rain affected 5.9 hectares of rice and crops, including flash floods over 1 hectare of rice, burying 0.4 hectares, inundating 5.45 hectares and sweeping away 1 buffalo.

Immediately after the incident, the PCTT - TKCN Steering Committee urgently directed members to go to each village to inspect and assess the extent of damage, coordinate with Lao Cai Province Construction Investment Management Board No. 1 and related units to have a plan to overcome the consequences.

The local government also requested Tran Yen Electricity to check the incident and fix the fallen electric poles and other incidents immediately that night to ensure safety and restore power to the people.
