Floods and landslides damaged 168 houses in Thanh Hoa

(NLDO) - Floods in recent days have damaged hundreds of houses, roads, and schools in Thanh Hoa due to landslides, forcing thousands of households to evacuate to safety.
On September 24, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Thanh Hoa province said it had issued a quick report on the flood situation in the area as of 6:00 p.m. on September 23.

According to the report, due to the influence of the tropical convergence zone with an axis through the North and Central Central regions combined with the strengthening cold air, from 8:00 a.m. on September 22 to 12:00 p.m. on September 23, Thanh Hoa province had moderate to heavy rain, some places had very heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall from 50-100 mm, some places over 150 mm. Due to heavy rain, combined with flood discharge, the water level of large rivers such as Chu River, Ma River, Buoi River... rose, causing flooding and isolating many places. To proactively respond to floods, landslides and flooding risks, the People's Committees of districts and cities in the area have proactively evacuated 2,873 households, with 11,759 people.

Floods and landslides also damaged 169 houses (of which 168 houses were damaged by landslides). Specifically, Muong Lat district had 11 houses, Quan Son 92 houses, Quan Hoa 49 houses, Thuong Xuan 17 houses. Thousands of hectares of rice, crops, perennial crops, aquaculture... were flooded and damaged. 10 schools were affected by landslides. Of which, in Quan Son district, 3 schools; Muong Lat 2 schools; Quan Hoa 2 schools; Lang Chanh 2 schools; Ba Thuoc 1 school.

There were two landslides and dike breaches at No Thon drainage culvert (location K26+711 on the left dike of Ma River, Vinh An Commune, Vinh Loc District) and 3-door drainage culvert (location K37+840 on the left dike of Hoang River, Quang Phuc Commune, Quang Xuong District), which have now been handled. Notably, the floods caused landslides on a series of roads in the province, with a total volume of 60,000 m3. In addition, many other landslides occurred on provincial roads, causing traffic jams.
The Chu River water level in Ban Ma (Thuong Xuan town) has receded, but remains high.
The floods also caused 5 medium-voltage power poles and 16 low-voltage power poles to fall or break. In Quan Son district alone, 3 medium-voltage double power poles fell in Chung Son village, Son Thuy commune, causing a power outage in the entire Son Thuy commune. Immediately after the natural disaster, Thanh Hoa organized inspection teams, directed the work of overcoming the consequences, supported people to repair their houses, take care of damaged crops, and soon stabilize their lives.
