Buddha's Birthday and the Message of Awakening

In Thai Nguyen province, Buddhism has been present and intertwined with the lives of the people for centuries. With over 200 temples of various sizes scattered throughout the province, Buddhism is not only a place of religious worship but also a space for preserving moral and cultural values and fostering community solidarity. Each temple bears its own historical, architectural, and traditional imprint, contributing to the distinctive cultural identity of this tea-producing region.

Vietnamese Buddhism has always been intertwined with the historical flow of the country, taking the spirit of "protecting the nation and ensuring the well-being of the people" and engaging with the world to save lives as its ideal of service. The compassion and wisdom of Buddhism have become a source of spiritual strength, contributing to building a peaceful life, guiding people towards the values of truth, goodness, and beauty, and spreading a culture of love, responsibility, and ethical living in the community.

In the sacred and joyful atmosphere of the Buddha's Birthday celebration, together with the global Buddhist community, monks, nuns, and Buddhists at more than 200 temples in Thai Nguyen province have been organizing many meaningful activities such as the Buddha bathing ceremony, chanting prayers for national peace and prosperity, lighting candles of gratitude, charitable and humanitarian activities, and spreading messages of love to the community. Through these activities, they continue to uphold the tradition of accompanying the nation, being closely connected to their homeland, and contributing to building a compassionate and civilized society.

Regarding the message for the Buddha's Birthday Celebration, Buddhist Calendar 2570 - Gregorian Calendar 2026, the Venerable Thich Tri Quang, the Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, affirmed: The Buddha's Birthday season is an opportunity for each person to reflect on themselves, cultivate compassion, mindfulness, and wisdom in today's life. Amidst the pressures of modern life, more than ever, people need to learn to slow down, to love, share, and behave more humanely towards the community.

That spirit has been strongly spreading through the activities of the Vietnam Buddhist Association in Thai Nguyen province for many years. Venerable Thich Nguyen Thanh, Standing Member of the Central Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Association and Head of the Executive Board of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Buddhist Association, stated: In 2025, Thai Nguyen Buddhism contributed over 80 billion VND to social welfare activities such as supporting the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses, caring for the poor, helping disadvantaged students, and assisting people in overcoming the consequences of Typhoon Matmo.

It's not just about numbers or donations; it's about spreading mindfulness and compassion within the community. When each person opens their heart to the difficulties of others, shares in times of hardship, and shows love in times of loss, the light of Buddhism is no longer confined to the temple gates but is present in every beautiful act in everyday life.

The Buddha's Birthday celebration contributes to spreading the message of living virtuously, responsibly, and mindfully.
The Buddha's Birthday celebration contributes to spreading the message of living virtuously, responsibly, and mindfully.

Each Buddha's Birthday season, temples throughout the province become places of connection, nurturing spiritual life and sowing seeds of goodness in society. In that same sacred rhythm, over 14 million Vietnamese monks, nuns, and Buddhists turn their hearts towards the Buddha's birth, spreading the spirit of compassion and wisdom throughout the country.

Every act of kindness, every small act of sharing, contributes to kindling the light of awareness, helping people to pause amidst haste, open their hearts to the suffering of others, and live in greater harmony with the community…

Therefore, the Buddha's birthday season is not only a season of spiritual faith, but also a season to awaken compassion in each person; so that from the light and wisdom of the Buddha, human relationships are nurtured, communities become more united, and the homeland becomes increasingly compassionate, peaceful, and sustainably developed.
