On the morning of March 18, the Vietnam Journalists Association held its 2024 national conference. Attending the conference were Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department; Mr. Tran Luu Quang, Deputy Prime Minister; journalist Le Quoc Minh, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper and 500 delegates representing more than 25,000 journalist members nationwide.

The press should avoid group and "fighting" areas.

Speaking at the conference, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia assessed that in the past year, the Vietnam Journalists Association has done many things. Thereby, the role of the press has been highly appreciated by the Party, State and people.

The Head of the Central Propaganda Department requested to overcome negative situations in the group field, the situation of "fighting" and determined to improve the journalism environment.

"Journalism can be poor, but it must not be negative, taking advantage of this to attack that, that to attack that; it must be correct, accurate, objective, harmonious, and convincing. Every article written must be against negativity, written correctly, said correctly, in accordance with the law, ethics, and aspirations of the people, then the position of the press will be greatly enhanced," Mr. Nghia emphasized.

On this occasion, the Head of the Central Propaganda Department requested that the Vietnam Journalists Association at all levels guide press agencies to closely follow the reality of innovation, national development, and current issues. At the same time, it is necessary to promote innovation and creativity in journalism, seek and deploy digital newsroom models, and research solutions so that journalism is not negatively affected by artificial intelligence, robots, etc.

Anti-corruption, anti-negativity in depth

Journalist Le Quoc Minh said that 74 years (April 21, 1950 - April 21, 2024) since its establishment, the Vietnam Journalists Association is growing stronger in quantity and quality.

According to the President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, despite the unprecedented challenges, the press has always been a vanguard force in effectively propagating the Party and State's policies and guidelines, always closely associated with and accompanying the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

Information and propaganda work in the press on the implementation of political tasks, economic, social, cultural, national defense, security, anti-corruption and negativity issues, etc. has been given attention, focus, and depth, creating positive spillover effects.

The President of the Vietnam Journalists Association also affirmed that in the coming time, all levels of the Vietnam Journalists Association will work side by side with members and press agencies to operate proactively, effectively, flexibly, closely following the grassroots, promptly, honestly and objectively reflecting the activities of the people and the entire political system.

Speaking at the conference, journalist Duc Trung, member of the Editorial Board, General Secretary of the editorial board, Permanent Vice President of the Thanh Nien Newspaper Journalists Association, said that in 2023, the Association has made efforts to successfully complete assigned tasks, contributing to the overall results of Thanh Nien Newspaper from content work, journalism economics to social charity activities - for the community and programs and events behind the newspaper.

Analyzing some existing problems related to press activities, journalist Duc Trung said that recently, there has been a situation where some resident reporters and collaborators have violated professional ethics, even violated the law while working, seriously affecting the reputation of the press. Thereby, he recommended that management agencies such as the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Journalists Association... strengthen the mechanism of control, prevention, and strong sanctions against violations. At the same time, regularly inspect, urge, and strictly handle cases of violations of the Press Law, obstructing journalists from practicing their profession in accordance with the law, thereby creating favorable conditions for the press to promote the effectiveness of social supervision and criticism.

On the same afternoon, the Vietnam Journalists Association held a 2024 emulation and reward conference, presenting emulation flags to 18 groups; presenting certificates of merit to 29 Journalists Association groups, 51 individual members with outstanding achievements in professional work and building the Vietnam Journalists Association in 2023. In particular, the Thanh Nien Newspaper Journalists Association and individual journalist Dinh Phu, Deputy Head in charge of the Political - Social Department, Secretary of the Thanh Nien Newspaper Journalists Association at the Ho Chi Minh City editorial office, were awarded certificates of merit by the Vietnam Journalists Association.
