Muong Gion develops trade and services.

Muong Gion commune is located on the banks of the Son La hydroelectric reservoir and has National Highway 279 running through it, connecting it to Lai Chau province, facilitating trade in goods by water and land, as well as tourism services. Exploiting its potential and advantages, the commune has encouraged its people to develop commerce and services, expand various business models, and increase income.

In Chieng Le village, located in the center of the commune, there is a bustling community of buyers and sellers, with many shops and businesses offering a full range of goods including groceries, household items, electronics, building materials, fashion , motorbike repair, and food services. Mr. Tong Van Doi, Party Secretary and Village Head, said: The village currently has 185 households with 755 inhabitants. Of these, about 60 households have developed business models, mainly selling groceries and supplying agricultural materials. Thanks to the development of trade and services, the lives of the people have gradually improved, with an average income of over 42 million VND per person per year, and the number of poor households has decreased to only 5.

Having been involved in the agricultural machinery business in Chiềng Lề village for many years, Ms. Nguyễn Thị Chuyên, the business owner, shared: "Our family specializes in selling various types of machinery for production such as pumps, rice threshing machines, and milling machines; we also supply electrical and plumbing equipment, electronics, refrigeration equipment, and furniture. Thanks to our convenient location on National Highway 279, the store attracts customers, bringing in nearly 400 million VND in income each year and creating regular jobs for local workers."

In Muong Gion commune, there are currently over 100 households engaged in trade and services, not only enriching their families but also meeting the consumption needs of the people. Along with developing traditional commerce, the commune is gradually exploiting the natural landscape of the Son La hydroelectric reservoir and local culture to develop service types associated with community tourism. Since July 2025, the commune has maintained a monthly highland night market, with over 20 stalls selling characteristic products such as Muong Gion rice, Muong Gion sticky rice, Phieng Mut canarium fruit, Da River fish, and many traditional dishes of the Thai ethnic group, attracting a large number of locals and tourists to visit and experience.

In addition, the commune also focuses on investing in and maintaining the central market, which sells consumer goods, provides food services, repairs machinery, sells agricultural products, supplies, electronics, and refrigeration equipment. The rich and diverse development of business and service sectors has made the rural landscape of the commune increasingly vibrant. Households investing in businesses have contributed to creating jobs for many workers and increasing local budget revenue. In the first quarter, budget revenue in the trade and service sector reached nearly 560 million VND, accounting for nearly 59% of the assigned budget revenue for 2026 in the commune. The material and spiritual lives of the people have continuously improved; the poverty rate has decreased to 4.4%.

Alongside expanding business activities, the commune pays special attention to market management and consumer protection. Ms. Luong Thi Duyen, Chairwoman of the Commune People's Committee, stated: The commune regularly disseminates information and encourages business households to comply with regulations on goods trading and food safety and hygiene, cooperates in inspecting product quality, and strictly handles violations. Simultaneously, it promotes digital transformation in business operations by leveraging the role of 23 community digital transformation groups to guide people in using electronic payment platforms and digital services. To date, 100% of business households and small traders in the area have adopted cashless payments, contributing to a modern, convenient, and transparent business environment.

Maintaining the central market and night market in the highlands, while expanding various types of businesses, commercial activities, and services in Muong Gion, is increasingly thriving, creating more jobs, increasing income for the people, and gradually forming the image of a dynamic economic zone in the highlands, along the Son La hydroelectric reservoir.
