"We are deeply saddened to announce that a child recently diagnosed with measles has passed away," said Aaron Davis, vice president of Texas UMC Medical Center, in a statement to reporters.
Texas also reported its first measles death in a child last month. Neither child had been vaccinated against measles and had no underlying health conditions, Davis said. “This unfortunate incident underscores the importance of vaccination,” he said.

After learning of the second child's death from measles, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. planned to travel to Texas.
Mr Kennedy Jr. has previously downplayed the importance of vaccines, even as the US grapples with its worst measles outbreak in years.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that as of April 3, there were a total of 607 confirmed cases of measles in 21 states, ranging from Alaska to Florida, as well as New York City. Notably, 97% of these cases were unvaccinated; 196 cases were under 5 years old, 240 cases were between 5 and 19 years old, and 159 cases were 20 years old and older, with the remaining cases of unknown age.
