According to AFP , the new meeting was scheduled after European leaders held a similar emergency meeting on February 17, also at the call of President Macron, to agree on a common response to recent steps by the administration of US President Donald Trump.
According to the Elysee Palace, the second meeting will take place online.
Several sources said that this meeting will have more countries participating than the first one, including countries both inside and outside Europe. Two diplomatic sources revealed that the invited countries include Canada, Norway, the three Baltic states (Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia), the Czech Republic, Greece, Finland, Romania, Sweden and Belgium.
Currently, the leaders of the "old continent" are having to coordinate their actions after the US President's administration took separate steps with Russia to strengthen bilateral relations and resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
Through phone calls between the two leaders on February 12 as well as the first direct negotiations between the two sides in Saudi Arabia on February 18, the leaders of the "old continent" had to urgently coordinate their actions so as not to be "left out" in the peace negotiations on Ukraine.
Many European leaders have warned that they will not accept any negotiation outcome without the participation and/or acceptance of Europe and Ukraine.
In a move to reassure European allies, right after negotiations with Russia in Saudi Arabia, on February 18, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had phone calls with several European counterparts and the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.
The US chief diplomat reassured that both the EU and Ukraine will be involved in the negotiation process to end the conflict in Ukraine.
In a statement, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said Mr Rubio had affirmed that the US wanted a lasting peace agreement in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, on February 19, US President Donald Trump's Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg arrived in Kiev to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky. Mr. Kellogg said: "This will be an opportunity for good, substantive negotiations" and that the content of the negotiations will be based on recent discussions at the Munich Security Conference.
