TP-Link faces ban in the US
According to the Wall Street Journal , investigators from the US Departments of Commerce, Defense and Justice are currently conducting investigations into TP-Link. The US government could issue a ban on the sale of this company's routers as early as next year.
TP-Link currently holds 65% of the US router market share, with 11 of the top 20 best-selling products on Amazon. However, authorities are concerned that TP-Link routers could be used by Chinese hackers to launch cyberattacks.
Recently, Microsoft discovered a giant botnet of more than 16,000 devices, mainly TP-Link routers, being controlled by Chinese hackers to steal login information. Previously, there were also many reports of serious security vulnerabilities on TP-Link routers.
In addition, the US Department of Justice is investigating whether TP-Link's low-price strategy violates antitrust laws. The Chinese Embassy in Washington has voiced its objections, saying that the US is using national security issues to suppress Chinese companies.
A potential ban on TP-Link could have a major impact on millions of users in the US and increase trade tensions between the US and China.
