The newspaper quoted NATO officials as saying that after the meeting in Vilnius ( Lithuania ) next month, the next summit of this alliance is expected to be held in July 2024, in Washington, DC, USA.

This is in contrast to previous predictions that NATO would not hold a formal summit on the occasion of the alliance's 75th anniversary in April 2024. Instead, only a commemoration will be planned for that occasion, expected to take place in Brussels (Belgium).

According to German newspapers, senior NATO officials said the decision not to hold a summit next spring was because such a meeting would be too close to the NATO Summit in Vilnius taking place on July 11-12.

In addition, the German newspaper also commented that US President Joe Biden seems to want to use the NATO Summit in Washington to launch his election campaign. The new US presidential election will take place on November 5, 2024.

The newspaper also predicted that Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen are potential successors to current NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. According to this source, French President Emmanuel Macron is currently supporting Ms. Frederiksen.
