Speaking to reporters, Mr. Vincent Magwenya, spokesman for the President of South Africa, stressed that Pretoria "will not engage in counterproductive megaphone diplomacy", after US President Donald Trump announced the decision to stop all funding for the African country.
Despite this, South Africa still expressed its goodwill in maintaining bilateral relations. Mr. Magwenya affirmed that Pretoria remains committed to building a trade, political and diplomatic relationship that is beneficial to both sides, but must be based on the principles of mutual respect and respect for South Africa's sovereignty .
Tensions between the two countries have been rising since South African President Ramaphosa signed a new law in January that allows the state to seize land “in the public interest” without compensation in some cases. The move is aimed at addressing inequality in land ownership in South Africa.

On Truth Social, Mr. Trump also proposed a “fast track to citizenship” for South African farmers and their families who want to leave for safety, asserting that the process would begin immediately.
