Nghe An Cao Xuan Phat, 16 years old, and his mother went to the bank to report after seeing 400 million VND in their account from a stranger.
A 10th grade student at Nguyen Xuan On High School in Dien Thanh Commune, Dien Chau District, said that on the morning of March 5, he received a money transfer but did not check it right away because he thought his mother sent him 400,000 VND to pay off a debt.
On the evening of March 6, when checking his account, Phat discovered that the amount was 400 million VND. He immediately called his mother, Cao Thi Diep, to ask again. The mother and son determined that someone had transferred the money by mistake.

Phat and his mother were planning to report to the police and post information on social media to find the owner of the money when they received another transfer notice worth 10,000 VND with the content being the name and phone number of an unknown person.
Realizing that the person who mistakenly transferred the money sent an additional fee to return the money and a contact phone number, Ms. Diep and Phat called to confirm and encouraged the person to rest assured, saying that they would go to the bank tomorrow morning to check and then transfer the money back.
On March 7, Phat and his mother went to a bank transaction office in Dien Chau district to check the information of the person who transferred the money. Confirming that Ms. Tran Thi Thai Hoa, residing in Can Loc district, Ha Tinh , was indeed the person who mistakenly transferred the amount of 400 million VND, the male student immediately returned it.
Ms. Tran Thi Thai Hoa said that on March 5, she transferred 400 million VND to her friend to pay off the bank debt, but due to a wrong number, the money was transferred to Phat's account. At that time, she was very worried because the verification process to request a refund would take a long time. However, she was lucky because Phat and his mother enthusiastically supported her to get the money back as soon as possible.
After receiving the money back, Ms. Hoa offered to give Phat 5 million VND but he refused.
Phat's mother said she was very proud to see her son's honesty. Her family was a merchant and had good finances but had difficulty having children. She and her husband had five children but three of them had died, leaving only Phat and an older brother who were working in transportation.
