Báo Nhân dânBáo Nhân dân23/05/2025

Attending the workshop were leaders of the Ministry of Health , the Vietnam Nursing Association, leaders of the K Hospital and nearly 1,000 domestic experts and scientists specializing in cancer nursing and international experts from Japan, Indonesia and Singapore.

According to Professor, Dr. Le Van Quang, Director of K Hospital: Cancer prevention and control is still a big challenge for medicine in the world and the role of nursing is extremely important. Nursing is not only about performing technical procedures, but also about building a close relationship with patients, listening, providing emotional support, pain relief, managing side effects and facilitating the recovery process of patients. Staff working in cancer nursing require sensitivity, empathy and extensive professional knowledge. The World Health Organization (WHO) has affirmed: Nursing care services are one of the pillars of the health system.

Notably, recently, with the action message on the occasion of International Nurses Day on May 12: "Our nurses. Our future. Caring for nurses' health is also increasing economic efficiency", the International Council of Nurses emphasized the key essential activities to bring benefits to the nursing profession, which is also the benefit of the entire health system to address global health challenges and improve health for everyone in the world.

These activities include: Respecting and rewarding nurses for their contributions to patients and the community; protecting nurses because they have to work in dangerous and toxic conditions; investing in nursing work by improving professional policies, training, investing in equipment for nursing activities and recognizing and properly evaluating the value and position of the nursing profession.

Speaking at the workshop, Dr. Duong Huy Luong, Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management (Ministry of Health), said: The team of oncology nurses has made very important and effective contributions in areas such as policy development, care management organization, training, care practice and scientific research. However, many places still have the notion that "Nursing is a service profession, nurses are just people who follow doctors' orders".

Nursing human resources are lacking in quantity and have lower professional capacity than many countries in the region; patient care at medical facilities still depends heavily on patients' relatives; nursing practice is not consistent with training qualifications; nursing leadership and management systems are not appropriate.
