(kontumtv.vn) – Determining clean water as an important indicator in the National Criteria for New Rural Development, in recent years, all levels, sectors and localities in the province have always made efforts to provide clean water for rural people. However, currently, the exploitation and use of rural clean water projects in the province are facing some difficulties . Therefore, the functional sectors are actively coordinating to implement many solutions to effectively exploit these projects.

The Dien Binh - Dak Hring commune cluster domestic water supply project was put into operation in December 2014 with a design capacity of over 1,600 m3 /day and night, ensuring water supply for 2,000 households. Currently, the project supplies water to 1,700 households in Dak Hring and Dak Long communes of Dak Ha district and Dien Binh commune of Dak To district, with an exploitation efficiency of 85%. The operation of this project helps households have a stable source of domestic water, ensuring hygiene. Mr. Phan Khanh Dien in village 8, Dien Binh commune, said: “Before, my family did not have clean water so we used well water, but the well water in this area is a bit alum, difficult to use, the well is deep, 30m - 40m to have water. Now using this water is very convenient, the water is clean, not smelly, guaranteed quality, used for family activities and also for a little irrigation in the garden.”

Like many other rural areas, every year, during the dry season, people in village 3, Dak Cam commune, Kon Tum city face many difficulties due to lack of domestic water. In the past 4 years, everything has changed when the Dak Cam commune domestic water supply station officially came into operation and ensured a continuous and stable supply of clean water for 845 households in the commune. Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Ly in village 3, Dak Cam commune, said: “My family moved here 7 years ago. Before, during the dry season, the water was dry, there was not enough water to use, and many times we had to buy water from outside. Since the clean water project was moved here, I feel very satisfied, because when it is sunny, my family no longer lacks water, does not have to buy water from outside, but we will have water to use directly, the water is clean, and we can use it comfortably.”

Investing in and putting into operation clean water supply works has helped rural people and people in remote areas access clean water sources, gradually improving their quality of life. However, the problem of providing clean water in the province is currently facing some difficulties such as depleted, degraded, and polluted water sources; high investment costs for water supply systems; expensive infrastructure maintenance; failure to attract other economic sectors to invest, manage, and exploit water works... Mr. Ha Van Luong - Head of the Dien Binh - Dak Hring domestic water supply station, Dien Binh commune, Dak To district, added: "The biggest difficulty now is that people's water use from the works is not high. In the coming time, we will coordinate with local authorities to mobilize people to use water from the works to develop the works and improve their efficiency."

By the end of 2022, 48.6% of centralized water supply works in the province were not operating sustainably or were not operating. In response to the requirements for rural clean water supply, the relevant authorities have proposed many solutions to improve the efficiency of exploitation and sustainable use of rural clean water works. Mr. Bui Van Nhi - Planning, Technical & Communication Department of the Center for Rural Clean Water & Environmental Sanitation, said: “We will mobilize resources to invest, repair, upgrade, and expand works, prioritizing investment in advanced water supply technology to ensure water quality meets Vietnamese standards issued by the Ministry of Health . We will continue to mobilize and propose to the Government and Kon Tum province to have solutions on financial mechanisms, taxes, and water price support for people, especially for poor households, policy households, and ethnic households in remote areas.”

With synchronous and effective solutions, we believe that in the coming time, the exploitation and use of rural clean water works will be increasingly effective, contributing to improving and enhancing people's lives./.
