According to many teachers' feedback, at the end of the 2023-2024 school year, LGH students (grade 5) of Ly Thuong Kiet Primary School (Ward 1, Soc Trang City, Soc Trang Province) had their year-end assessment results changed from H (complete) to T (good) by 3 teachers of English, Music and Fine Arts. The reason for the change was so that the students could be classified as excellent at the end of the school year.
According to the teacher's feedback, this correction was completed, and a report was compiled to the Department of Education and Training of Soc Trang City; at the same time, the vnEdu system (Vietnam's educational software) was also locked, but the Principal directed to open and correct it on the vnEdu system. Afterwards, the incident was discovered by the Department of Education and Training of Soc Trang City, which requested the return to the original "status quo".
After receiving instructions from the Department of Education and Training, Ly Thuong Kiet Primary School organized a meeting with 8 members, including: Mr. Le Quoc Hoang Long (Principal), Ms. Hoi Duong Lam Thuy (Vice Principal), Ms. Trang Thanh Thuy (Chairwoman of the Trade Union), Mr. Le Quoc Bao (homeroom teacher of class 5/4), Mr. Kha Ung Trung (Art teacher), Ms. Trang My Anh (English teacher), Ms. Do Thi Hoai (Music teacher) and Ms. Pham Thi Lien (secretary).
At the meeting, Mr. Le Quoc Hoang Long approved the content of correcting the academic record of student LGH (grade 5/4 student) when there were 3 adjusted subjects: English, Music and Fine Arts after the Department of Education and Training invited members of the school related to the incident of student LGH and the adjustment of his academic record.
On his part, Mr. Long accepted responsibility for his wrong instructions leading to the violations (in changing the student's evaluation results from satisfactory to good). At the same time, he requested the teachers of the related subjects to adjust H's academic records to their original state. The teachers who adjusted H's results in English, Music, and Fine Arts also agreed to adjust them to the original results of this student.
On October 11, speaking with reporters, Mr. Le Quoc Hoang Long, Principal of Ly Thuong Kiet Primary School, admitted that the incident happened as the teacher reported, but "it was because the teacher entered the assessment into the computer incorrectly compared to the books" (!?).
A leader of the Department of Education and Training of Soc Trang City said: "After discovering this, we met with school leaders and related teachers, seriously criticized them and asked for corrections."
It is worth mentioning that, despite the incorrect assessment of students' learning outcomes, when considering the year-end emulation, in addition to the Principal receiving the "Completed Task" classification, 2 teachers were proposed by the school to be commended at a higher level; of which 1 teacher proposed to the People's Committee of Soc Trang province to award a certificate of merit, 1 teacher was proposed to be awarded the title of Emulation Fighter at the grassroots level (!?).
