On December 10, at Tu Tho village, Te Xang commune, the People's Committee of Tu Mo Rong district, Kon Tum province organized the workshop "Ngoc Linh ginseng - Vietnamese ginseng from historical, scientific and practical perspectives".

At the workshop, delegates, scientists, researchers, state management agencies, businesses, and ginseng growing localities frankly exchanged and discussed issues related to enhancing the value of Ngoc Linh ginseng. With a very high economic value, one hectare of Ngoc Linh ginseng after 8 years of planting can bring in a profit of over 32 billion VND. Therefore, this is considered a crop to reduce hunger and poverty for ethnic minorities and a strategic crop for investors.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Truong Huy, Ton Duc Thang University shared that through research, it has been proven that Ngoc Linh ginseng and Lai Chau ginseng contain many similar saponins, but their overall biochemical profiles are different. On that basis, the group has clearly identified chemical markers that can effectively distinguish Ngoc Linh ginseng and Lai Chau ginseng using chromatography. This method compared to the DNA analysis method to distinguish ginseng has the advantage of being convenient, fast, cheap and feasible in quantification.
Professor, Dr. Nguyen Minh Duc, Ton Duc Thang University said that in the period when the ginseng market still has many shortcomings, the State needs to strengthen the law, the market management system, especially strictly manage the circulation of ginseng and ginseng products. This is an urgent task to prevent confusion and counterfeiting, affecting the image and reputation of precious ginseng plants. Local authorities need to strengthen and complete the quality management chain of ginseng plants from plant varieties, geographical indications, growing area codes to final products to ensure the best interests of consumers.
Speaking at the workshop, Vice Chairman of Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Huu Thap said that through the workshop, Kon Tum province expects scientists, experts, departments, sectors, especially businesses and households growing Ngoc Linh ginseng to improve the quality control standards of Ngoc Linh ginseng and have methods to distinguish Ngoc Linh ginseng from other types of ginseng. At the same time, solutions will be reached to link and develop Ngoc Linh ginseng to help people get rich from precious ginseng varieties; linking ginseng development with tourism development so that Ngoc Linh ginseng can gradually reach the world.
The whole Kon Tum province now has more than 2,900 hectares of Ngoc Linh ginseng; Tu Mo Rong district alone has about 2,883 hectares with about 1,650 households, 30 household groups, production association teams and 4 enterprises participating in ginseng cultivation. Kon Tum province has paid attention to investing in infrastructure to create the most favorable conditions for the development of Ngoc Linh ginseng.
Kon Tum province has deployed a Center for high-tech medicinal plant breeding, conservation and development in Tu Mo Rong district with a scale of about 60 hectares. This is a place to provide Ngoc Linh ginseng seeds that ensure standards and quality for planting and expanding the area for the period 2025-2030 and the following years.
On this occasion, the relevant units organized the signing of 3 important contents related to Ngoc Linh ginseng, opening up great opportunities for growers and the ginseng industry, namely: Signing a memorandum of understanding on scientific research cooperation between the research team of Ton Duc Thang University and the People's Committee of Tu Mo Rong district; Signing a memorandum of understanding on scientific research cooperation between the research team of Ton Duc Thang University and Ngoc Linh Kon Tum Ginseng Joint Stock Company with the cooperation content being: "Researching the accumulation of saponin active ingredients in Ngoc Linh ginseng through the years of age, building, perfecting and improving the quality standards of Ngoc Linh ginseng and preparations towards the national product brand"; Signing the establishment of the Ngoc Linh ginseng research institute in Ho Chi Minh City between VinGin Joint Stock Company and the Ginseng and Medicinal Materials Center of Ho Chi Minh City.
Chairman of Tu Mo Rong District People's Committee Vo Trung Manh said that the signing of cooperation agreement to research the active ingredient content of Ngoc Linh ginseng through different stages will help to clearly distinguish the saponin content in ginseng plants through each year. This helps to increase the value of Ngoc Linh ginseng and consumers will feel secure when buying high-quality products. In addition, the signing of a memorandum of understanding to research and transfer the method of quickly distinguishing Ngoc Linh ginseng from other types of ginseng has created conditions for localities to have a basis for managing and tracing the origin of ginseng, contributing effectively to protecting consumers from profiteering from Ngoc Linh ginseng.
