'Face ruined' because of used branded cosmetics

VTC NewsVTC News13/03/2024

After Tet, Nguyen Ngoc Anh (21 years old, living in Hanoi ) excitedly hunted for a set of famous branded skin care cosmetics on a group that liquidates used cosmetics.

“The cost is only 1/5 of the cost of buying a new one,” Ngoc Anh said, adding that she thought she had gotten a bargain and dreamed of having smooth, bright skin after using this branded cosmetic.

Eagerly receiving the product 2 days after ordering, Ngoc Anh used it immediately and expected to have plump skin. However, the result shocked her.

When she experienced redness and uncomfortable stinging, the girl immediately contacted the seller and was told that the first time she used the product, redness and itching would appear. The seller also encouraged her that this phenomenon would disappear after 2-3 days when her skin adapted to the product.

Half-believing, Ngoc Anh continued using the product for 3 more days, but the symptoms did not go away but became worse. The 21-year-old girl's face became red, peeling, and blisters appeared on her lips. Only then did she panic and go to a dermatologist for examination.

Master, Doctor, Doctor Nguyen Tien Thanh, member of the Vietnam Dermatology Association, said that the patient suffered from herpes-infected dermatitis due to using products of unknown origin.

The female student was prescribed phototherapy and medication to treat contact dermatitis and herpes to suppress the virus.

Herpes simplex (HSV) is a virus that commonly causes recurrent infections affecting the skin, mouth, lips, eyes, and genitals. It can cause serious infectious complications such as encephalitis, meningitis, and neonatal herpes.

According to Dr. Thanh, on the surface of our skin there may be viruses, bacteria, and fungi that cause disease. When sharing cosmetic products, makeup tools, or used cosmetic products, there is a high risk of being infected with viruses, bacteria, and fungi that affect your skin, causing diseases such as flat warts, herpes, molluscum contagiosum, conjunctivitis, and skin fungus.

The doctor shared that makeup tools such as brushes and sponges contain many chemicals, viruses, fungi, and bacteria that cause infection. You should not share these products, especially lipstick.

"Women often have the habit of sharing lipstick, however, our mouth area is exposed to dusty air, food and drink every day. The lips are a semi-mucosal area that is very vulnerable, with many risks of contagious diseases, infections with Herpes virus and bacteria," said Dr. Thanh.

Dermatologists recommend that women should not share cosmetics, makeup tools, and should not use liquidated products of unknown origin.
