On May 9, Russia solemnly celebrated the 78th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War (May 9, 1945 - May 9, 2023). At Red Square in Moscow, the parade began at 10 a.m. (Moscow time), amid tight security.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries and a large number of veterans and Russian people watched the parade from the podium on Red Square.
More than 100 vehicles, weapons and military formations from the Russian armed forces passed through the stands. This year, the air force demonstration was canceled.
Speaking at the ceremony, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the people on Victory Day; at the same time, he emphasized that the holiday is an occasion to honor generations of fathers and grandfathers who bravely and willingly sacrificed to save humanity from fascism.

After the parade, Russian President Vladimir Putin and leaders of the CIS countries laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier next to the Kremlin wall. In addition to Moscow, this year's parade was also held in many cities in Russia.
For security reasons, many localities in Russia did not organize the “Immortal Regiment” march. Instead, “Walls of Memory” were organized from the beginning of May in many places, for people to attach photos of relatives or veterans who participated in the war with historical stories.
