Engineers at Russia's Don National Technical University have successfully developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered sports training robot aimed at helping athletes - from amateurs to professionals - improve their performance and reduce the risk of injury.
The robot is designed to address the shortage of professional trainers in many educational institutions and sports centers, while providing intelligent and personalized supervision to ensure exercises are performed correctly and safely.
Integrated with a motion monitoring camera, the robot is capable of observing and analyzing the practitioner's posture, thereby detecting errors and giving warnings about movements that pose a risk of injury.
Thanks to AI algorithms, the system can assess each individual's skills and fitness to plan appropriate workouts - almost like a real personal trainer.
The robot, which weighs around 5kg, can travel at speeds of up to 25km/h – fast enough to keep up with long-distance runners, including marathoners. This opens up the possibility of outdoor training and live monitoring during high-intensity workouts.
All are controlled via a mobile phone application that helps record training parameters, measure endurance, evaluate effectiveness and adjust training programs to suit personal goals./.
