According to TASS news agency, the above announcement was made by Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov on May 14.
"The commander of the 4th Motorized Rifle Brigade, Colonel Vyacheslav Makarov, personally commanded the front line. Two enemy attacks were repelled, the brigade's soldiers destroyed 3 tanks, 4 infantry fighting vehicles and 2 armored vehicles of the Ukrainian armed forces," Konashenkov said.

The statement also said: "During the defense against the third attack, the brigade commander was seriously wounded and died while evacuating from the battlefield."
In addition, Mr. Konashenkov also announced the death of Deputy Commander of the Corps in charge of political-military work, Colonel Yevgeny Brovko.
"During the battle to repel one of the attacks, Colonel Yevgeny Brovko heroically died after receiving multiple shrapnel wounds," Konashenkov said.
Mr. Brovko was also killed in the Donetsk region; however, the Russian Defense Ministry did not give further details about when or exactly where they died, according to CNN.
Also on May 14, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar said in a Telegram post that Ukrainian forces had captured more than 10 Russian positions near Bakhmut, adding that the situation in the frontline city was very hot.
According to the Ukrainian military, the two cities of Bakhmut and Maryinka in eastern Ukraine remained the focus of fighting during the day.
