Sixty years ago, during the Lunar New Year of 1965, sharing in the joy of the achievements of the army and people of Quang Ninh province, including the coal industry which had exceeded its production plan and contributed manpower and resources to the great southern front, President Ho Chi Minh visited and celebrated Tet with the people of Quang Ninh. President Ho Chi Minh's words of advice during that Tet, including his praise and admonitions to the coal industry, have always been deeply ingrained in the minds of coal workers and officials, becoming a rallying cry for emulation: "Produce as much coal as possible for the Fatherland."

During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh always held special affection for the Quang Ninh mining region and its miners. At a rally welcoming President Ho Chi Minh in Hon Gai town during the Tet holiday of 1965, he praised the great achievements of Quang Ninh in both production and combat. He awarded the coal industry the "Rotating Award for Best Performance" and instructed: "This year, the State has set a target of 5 million tons of clean coal. Of that, Hon Gai Coal Company is responsible for producing 4 million tons. There may be difficulties, but I am confident that you will all continue to work with the spirit of 'each person working twice as hard,' overcoming all obstacles and successfully completing all assigned tasks."

During his visit to celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year) with the people of Quang Ninh on February 2nd, 1965, the officials and people of Uong Bi town and Vang Danh Coal Mine had the honor of welcoming President Ho Chi Minh. During this visit, President Ho Chi Minh instructed: “Currently, the Uong Bi Power Plant and Vang Danh Coal Mine are among the largest and most modern enterprises in our country. Coal and electricity are essential for industry and agriculture . You all should strive to produce more, faster, better, and cheaper.”

Following Uncle Ho's teachings, over the past 60 years, generations of miners have strived to complete their tasks well, continuously increasing coal production to serve the socio-economic development of the province and the country. Specifically, the staff and workers of Vang Danh Coal Mine extracted over 29,600 tons of raw coal and produced over 14,400 tons of clean coal that year. These were the first achievements of the Vang Danh miners after resuming coal mining following a temporary suspension of production for mine design and restoration. Today's Vang Danh Coal miners uphold the spirit and traditions of their predecessors, continuing to develop, unite, and contribute their strength and intellect to the company's continued growth.

From a young coal miner from Thai Binh province who moved to Quang Ninh to start his career, Pham Dinh Duan, a worker at Mining Workshop 14 (Vang Danh Coal Joint Stock Company), has become a shining example of love for the mining profession and dedication to the nation's coal production. For over 20 years, coal miner Pham Dinh Duan has overcome all difficulties, constantly learning, working, and innovating, always setting a good example and leading the way in all activities; truly a role model for the younger generation to follow. His colleagues describe him as a worker who dares to think, dares to act, dares to take full responsibility, constantly learns and innovates, and always puts the collective interest first.

Miner Pham Dinh Duan shared: “Uncle Ho's teachings from the past are a great motivation, urging every cadre and worker to work harder and contribute to building our homeland… I always consider studying and following Uncle Ho's teachings as a guiding principle for all my work. In the harsh working environment deep underground, in each production shift, I always prioritize safety and strive to ensure the unit's production targets are met. Besides that, I and my colleagues always seek to learn and grasp new technological skills to apply to the current production conditions, thereby improving working conditions and benefiting the unit.”

Miners at Vang Danh Coal Joint Stock Company are determined to compete before their production shift.

Today, along with the development of the country and the need to ensure energy security for the economy, more than 800,000 miners in the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group have been striving to excel in implementing President Ho Chi Minh's teachings. Each cadre and worker in the coal industry is striving to increase production and scale of mining, enabling the coal industry to continue playing its role as one of the three pillars ensuring national energy security, and contributing to building a prosperous, civilized, and modern Quang Ninh province.

In 2024, the entire Quang Ninh Coal Party Committee had 182 collectives and individuals registered to implement the "Learning and Following Uncle Ho's Example" model, and 1,020 images of "Miners - Soldiers" in the Party Committee's activities were built and honored by the units. These emulation movements created momentum to help the Group achieve its production and business goals. In 2024 alone, TKV's raw coal production reached 37.5 million tons; coal consumption reached 46.7 million tons; and the Group's total profit reached 6.23 trillion VND, an increase of 42.2% compared to the annual plan and over 12% compared to 2023. Notably, the average salary of TKV workers was the highest since the Group's establishment, at 18 million VND/person/month.

In 2025, units and localities in Quang Ninh province will continue to launch the "Learning and Following Uncle Ho's Teachings" emulation campaign, concretizing it through practical models and activities. Through this, they aim to awaken the spirit of self-reliance, self-improvement, creativity, and aspiration for development to build Quang Ninh into a model province – prosperous, beautiful, civilized, and modern – confidently entering a new era – the era of national progress. For the coal industry specifically, the "Learning and Following Uncle Ho's Teachings" emulation campaign is creating a strong ripple effect, becoming the main driving force behind the Group's production and business activities.

Comrade Nguyen Manh Tuong, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Quang Ninh Coal Party Committee, stated: In 2025, the Party committees under the Quang Ninh Coal Party Committee will continue to implement the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style, linked with building the image of "Miner - Soldier," so that the "Learning and Following Uncle Ho" movement is widely disseminated, creating motivation for emulation and striving to exceed the 2025 target of producing over 38 million tons of coal and consuming 50 million tons for the entire Group. Along with that, they will compete in building a rich cultural life for miners, a corporate culture, and a distinctive coal industry culture; ensuring labor safety and increasing income for workers.
