“Civilized Saturday” - Spreading practical actions from self-awareness

(BDO) Each citizen should start with the smallest actions such as not littering, sorting waste at source; planting and taking care of trees; not encroaching on roadsides... These are the messages that the Steering Committee of Project 02 wants to convey and spread to raise people's awareness in building a civilized and cultural lifestyle in the province.

Spread with many beautiful actions

Project 02 on "Mass mobilization work to participate in building a cultural and civilized lifestyle in Binh Duong province in the period of 2021-2025" was issued by the Provincial Party Committee on July 23, 2021. After nearly 4 years of implementation, many activities, projects, and tasks of all levels, sectors, and localities on building a cultural and civilized lifestyle have created a change in the appearance of the urban area in a synchronous and modern manner, and the material and spiritual life of the people has been constantly improved.

Thanks to the joint efforts of the cadres and people of Ong Dong neighborhood, a large garbage dump has become a colorful flower garden.

Continuing to implement Project 02, the Project Steering Committee organized the Launching Ceremony of “Civilized Saturday” - for a civilized, green, clean, beautiful and affectionate Binh Duong. After half a year of launching the implementation of “Civilized Saturday”, the movement has brought practical results, many cadres, members and people have considered this meaningful Saturday as a regular activity and implemented it voluntarily and consciously.

In the hustle and bustle of the last days of the year, the morning sunlight shines gently through the office window of Ong Dong neighborhood (Tan Hiep ward, Tan Uyen city). Outside in the flower garden next door, the rustling sound of the wind blends with the laughter of the elderly.

Some people collect trash, some water the plants, some dig roots… dozens of people, including officials and residents of the neighborhood, take turns taking care of the garden every day.

Mr. Ngo Thanh Van, Head of the Neighborhood Front Committee, said: The flower garden project has about 30-40 types of trees and ornamental flowers. The project is the result of the hard work of the neighborhood officials and residents to turn the polluted area into an open space with beautiful scenery.

Mr. An Van Minh, Head of the neighborhood management board, said: “Previously, this land was a temporary market. After the market was relocated, it became a vacant lot, and then a landfill. Because we wanted to change the community’s awareness of protecting the environment, the neighborhood implemented the model of “Turning a landfill into a flower garden”. Since this flower garden was created, not only on Saturdays but also on normal days, the staff and residents of the neighborhood regularly take turns taking care of and preserving the neighborhood’s landscape.

Records at a "Civilized Saturday" launch in Tan Phuoc Khanh ward (Tan Uyen city) show that, regardless of age, gender, each person voluntarily does a task to complete the common work.

Mr. Nguyen Le Huu Bao, Secretary of the Tan Phuoc Khanh Ward Party Committee, said: “Civilized Saturday” has become a beautiful feature, a widespread movement in the ward. Responding to the “Civilized Saturday” plan, cadres, party members, association members and people in the ward have started with simple tasks such as cleaning, planting trees and flowers; removing illegal advertisements and classified ads, and maintaining urban order, etc.

Many forces join in implementing "Civilized Saturday"

The tasks that local officials and people often do are planting additional trees and trimming flowers along the streets; cleaning up residential areas; collecting trash and clearing streams... Wherever they go, officials and people in the neighborhoods neatly handle trash by collecting and sweeping...

In Di An City, every Saturday, local people also enthusiastically clean the streets, sort garbage, and take care of trees in most alleys, contributing to building a civilized and clean urban area, and people forming a civilized lifestyle where they live.

Mr. Tran Van Binh (Dong Chieu quarter, Tan Dong Hiep ward, Di An city) shared: “After the city launched the campaign to implement “Civilized Saturday”, every household has at least 1 member participating in the campaign. Every weekend, we make an appointment to beautify the streets and promote the building of a modern and humane city”.

Meaningful Saturday

It can be said that "Civilized Saturday" is just a name, the core issue that the Steering Committee of Project 02 wants to send the message is that beautiful actions in environmental protection, actions and gestures in building a cultural and civilized lifestyle are increasingly present and becoming a widespread movement.

This is not only a mass movement but has become a voluntary action of each union member, association member and people, aiming to contribute with the locality to do a good job of protecting the environment, building and forming a cultural and civilized lifestyle...

V 7: People's awareness of environmental protection is raised.

It can be seen that, implementing "Civilized Saturday" as well as spreading Project 02, many typical activities have been put into practice, such as: Localities coordinate with military units to support the construction and repair of houses and civil works; "Great Military-Civilian Solidarity" project; effective model activities on environmental protection, responding to climate change; models such as "Each women's association branch has a humane action each week to build a beautiful civilized lifestyle", "Green office"; "Morning coffee close to the people" model; communication, instructions on waste classification at source... "Civilized Saturday" has become a regular activity and gradually formed a community-oriented lifestyle for the people in the area.

Mr. Bui Thanh Nhan, Standing Member, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Commission, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee for Project 02, said that "Civilized Saturday" aims to create a positive and strong change in the awareness and practical actions of cadres, party members, civil servants, union members, association members, students and people of all walks of life in joining hands to protect the environment for a green, clean and beautiful Binh Duong; forming habits and self-awareness, voluntary actions for the community, cultural and civilized behaviors, contributing to building a cultural and civilized lifestyle; creating increasingly spacious, clean, civilized and modern urban and rural landscapes; building Binh Duong province as a place with a good living environment, a livable place for everyone.

In addition, “Civilized Saturday” also promotes the role, enthusiasm, efforts, pioneering and exemplary spirit of cadres, party members, civil servants, public employees, workers, union members, association members and their families, and the self-awareness and voluntariness of people in implementing a cultural and civilized lifestyle in the workplace, residence and public places; creating exciting, practical and effective movements, spreading awareness among all classes of people about environmental protection and building a cultural and civilized lifestyle in the province...
