In the early morning of August 16, Icardi scored in the 87th minute, sealing a 3-0 victory for Galatasaray against Fatih Karagümrük, opening an impressive new season. After scoring, the Argentine striker did not hide his emotions, expressing his gratitude to Galatasaray fans.

Icardi suffered a serious injury – a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus damage in his right knee – during Galatasaray's match against Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Europa League on 7 November 2024.

The injury occurred when Icardi tried to put pressure on the Tottenham goalkeeper, resulting in an unnatural knee movement that forced him to leave the field on a stretcher. An MRI at the hospital confirmed the severity of the injury, forcing Icardi to undergo surgery and miss nearly a year of playing time.

Doctors are even concerned that the 32-year-old striker will have difficulty returning to his peak form. However, Icardi's return is a big boost for Galatasaray, the team leading the Turkish Super League this season.

The reigning Turkish champions are off to a perfect start to the season, winning both of their opening games, scoring six goals and conceding none.
