Lao Cai implements project to make English the second language in schools

GD&TĐ - Lao Cai Education Department has identified the key task of the new school year as implementing the English project.

On the afternoon of August 16, at Lao Cai Conference Center, Lao Cai Department of Education and Training held a conference to summarize the 2024-2025 school year and deploy tasks for the 2025-2026 school year, with the participation of leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People's Committee and representatives of educational institutions throughout the province.

In the 2024-2025 school year, the province's education scale will remain stable with 1,047 facilities, 15,317 classes and more than 470,000 students. The education sector has 31,069 cadres, teachers and employees.

Mr. Luyen Huu Chung, Deputy Director in charge of Lao Cai Department of Education and Training, spoke at the conference.

Many outstanding achievements were recorded. At the National Excellent Student Competition, Lao Cai students won 128 prizes, including 2 First prizes, 16 Second prizes, 45 Third prizes and 65 Encouragement prizes. Notably, one student won the Bronze Medal at the Asia- Pacific Informatics Olympiad. The National Science and Technology Research Competition recorded 6/6 prizes, including 3 Second prizes, 1 Third prize and 2 Promising prizes.

At the secondary school level, the whole province had 886 prizes in the excellent student competition, including 31 first prizes. The high school level recorded 1,719 prizes in the provincial excellent student competition, with 61 first prizes.

The comprehensive education movement also has many bright spots. The rate of mobilizing preschool children reached 98%; 100% of ethnic minority children were enhanced with Vietnamese. School facilities continued to improve with 14,988 classrooms, the province's solidity rate reached 86%.

Entering the 2025-2026 school year, the Lao Cai Education sector aims to continue to innovate and improve the quality of education at all levels, while implementing the Project to make English the second language in schools for the period 2025-2035. The sector also aims to ensure equitable access to education for all subjects.

At the conference, delegates also raised some difficulties after the merger and proposed that the Provincial People's Committee authorize the commune level in some educational management contents, increase experienced management staff, and focus on expanding foreign language learning models.
