In the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop, the project was piloted in Xuan Ninh commune (now Truong Ninh commune) and Vinh Lam commune (now Vinh Thuy commune) with an area of 59 hectares. In the 2025 Summer-Autumn crop, the project continued to be expanded in 6 communes: Truong Ninh, Ninh Chau, Quang Ninh , Vinh Thuy, Trieu Phong, Trieu Binh with a required area of 2,060.8 hectares.
After 1 year of project implementation, it shows that water-saving irrigation has helped reduce the number of watering times by 1.4%. Rice in the project area grows well, tillers grow in a concentrated manner, plants are stronger, and resist lodging better; productivity increases slightly from 4.6% to 8.6%.
At the workshop, delegates unanimously assessed that the model using alternating flooding and drying irrigation technology is suitable for farming conditions in Quang Tri, helping to improve economic efficiency, reduce emissions and gradually change farmers' production habits.
In the 2025-2026 Winter-Spring crop, the North Central Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Tri and local authorities to conduct surveys and expand the implementation area to 6,000 hectares and up to 10,000 hectares in the 2026 Summer-Autumn crop. It is expected that the project area will reach 30,000 hectares/crop by 2030.
