Việt NamViệt Nam02/08/2023

We visited the carpentry craft village of Mao Chinh, Bui Bong, Duong Quang commune (My Hao town). The atmosphere of production and trading of wooden products by the people here was very bustling. The sound of sawing machines, chiseling, planing, milling… resounded throughout the craft village. On the main roads, cars and trailers were bustlingly carrying wooden products back and forth.

Carpentry brings high income to people in Mao Chinh village, Duong Quang commune.

In recent years, along with other occupations such as mechanics, construction, milling, etc., carpentry has been maintained and developed by Duong Quang commune, creating jobs and stable income for thousands of workers, contributing significantly to accelerating the process of building new rural areas in the locality. Carpentry here has existed for about 30 years. Previously, small-scale production households produced quite monotonous products, mainly meeting the consumption needs of local people and some neighboring communes. Over time, up to now, the profession has been developed in all 7 villages in the commune, but is most concentrated in Mao Chinh and Bui Bong villages. Identifying the development of craft villages as a spearhead in the orientation of local economic development, in recent times, the commune has regularly coordinated with functional sectors to organize training, vocational training, and support machinery and equipment for households doing the profession. At the same time, create favorable conditions for land and loan procedures for households to invest in machinery, apply science and technology, and expand production scale. Up to now, the whole commune has about 500 households developing the economy from carpentry, creating jobs for nearly 1,000 local workers with an average income of nearly 10 million VND/person/month. The main carpentry products of the craft village include: Fine art carpentry, construction carpentry, interior carpentry, a variety of items such as statues, paintings, animal breeds, worship items; railings, stair pillars, tables, chairs, beds, cabinets, etc.

Previously, carpentry in Duong Quang was mainly done by hand, but now 100% of the establishments have invested in machinery and equipment to specialize in production stages from: drilling, sawing, chiseling, turning, milling, planing to polishing, painting... contributing to improving labor productivity, product quality as well as income value. Production establishments pay attention to maintaining environmental hygiene, such as building closed workshops, having smoke and waste treatment systems...

Mr. Bui Dang Bac's family in Mao Chinh village has been in the fine art carpentry business for over 20 years. Thanks to the good quality of the products and beautiful designs, the fine art carpentry production facility owned by Mr. Bac has not only affirmed its position in the provincial market but also exported hundreds of products to many provinces and cities in the country each year with a revenue of billions of VND, creating stable jobs for 3 workers. Mr. Bac said: In recent years, the market for Duong Quang fine art carpentry products has expanded, the goods are not only consumed in the domestic market but also exported to China. The market demand for wooden furniture and decorations requires us to combine traditional models with modern trends to keep up with consumer tastes.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phu's family, the owner of a household wooden furniture manufacturing facility in Bui Bong village, said: I have been involved in carpentry for more than 30 years. Currently, my facility mainly produces products such as: Beds, cabinets, floors, doors, stairs... In the past 10 years, understanding the market demand, I have invested in purchasing machinery and expanding production and business; the main production stages such as processing raw wood, sawing, sawing, chiseling, planing, painting... all use modern machinery. Every year, my family's production facility brings in a profit of over 500 million VND; creating stable jobs for 6 workers with an income of over 10 million VND/person/month.

The development of carpentry has contributed to the economic restructuring of Duong Quang commune. In the first 6 months of 2023, the industrial and handicraft production value of the commune reached nearly 130 billion VND, an increase of nearly 16 billion VND over the same period in 2022, accounting for about 50% of the total production value of the whole commune. Currently, Mao Chinh village and Bui Bong village have been recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as fine art carpentry villages.

Comrade Vu Quang Sang, Vice Chairman of Duong Quang Commune People's Committee said: The recognition of fine art carpentry villages for Mao Chinh and Bui Bong villages is of great significance, contributing to the shift in rural economic structure, promoting development, and enhancing the value of fine art carpentry products. In the coming time, to develop the craft village, the commune will develop a plan for training, passing on the profession, and orienting the development of the profession towards diversifying and improving product quality; focusing on ensuring environmental hygiene and labor safety; encouraging households to invest in machinery, applying scientific and technological advances in production; promoting and introducing products of the craft village to expand the consumer market...
