Photographer Bui Viet Duc and his journey to conquer beauty

Photographer Bui Viet Duc confided: “I came to photography by chance because before that I had done many different jobs and had never received formal training through professional schools. With my love for photography, in 2015, I invested in equipment and researched and learned photography skills from experienced photographers, studied photo editing techniques on software systems, and lighting techniques. With a camera in hand, I began my journey to roam all the roads, street corners, famous places, and landscapes in many lands to “hunt” for beauty.

My first photo was “Afternoon Shadow”. Once when I visited the Song Lo area, I saw two cotton trees in Cao Phong commune and had the idea of ​​taking a landscape photo of the two cotton trees. It took me 3 days to capture the image of a woman carrying a load of goods and two buffaloes walking between the two cotton trees at dusk.

Another memorable memory is the photo series capturing the beauty of Ngoc Thanh Lake (Phuc Yen). To capture the precious moment, I stayed at the local ranger station for 2 days and woke up at 4am in the cold weather to “watch” the beautiful moment when the mist covered the lake surface, a few small boats on the water were gliding in the misty mist”.

After 2 years of passionately creating artistic photography works, in 2017, Mr. Bui Viet Duc was admitted to the Provincial Literature and Arts Association. In 2020, he became a member of the Vietnam Literature and Arts Association. Being active in the association, Mr. Duc has more opportunities to learn, improve his professional knowledge of photography, and participate in creative activities with the team of artists.

Currently, photographer Bui Viet Duc is the Vice President of the Provincial Photography Association and the President of the Central Photography Association in Vinh Phuc. In the 2019 - 2024 term, he and other artists have created many photographic works imbued with the beauty of the lands and landscapes, reflecting the rhythm of daily life and the work of building the homeland and the country to become increasingly rich and prosperous. At the same time, he has traveled to many localities to create works, contributing to the Provincial Literature and Arts Association to compile and publish 3 photo collections "Old Features of Vinh Phuc", "Vinh Phuc, Motherland", "My Country Vietnam"; accompanying the association members to arouse the passion for creating artistic photos and photographic works serving the political tasks of the province.

During his 10-year journey with the art of photography, photographer Bui Viet Duc has won many prestigious domestic and international awards and has been honored with awards from all levels and sectors. Notably, he was awarded by the Provincial Party Committee for his outstanding achievements in the fields of journalism, literature and art in the period 2015 - 2020; and was awarded the C prize by the Minister of National Defense for his photo work "The Joy of a Special Forces Soldier" on the theme of armed forces and revolutionary war in the period 2020 - 2025.

The Central Propaganda Department awarded the Second Prize for the work "Maintaining the electricity flow at the border" at the "Proud of a border strip" contest in 2024; the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army awarded the Second Prize for the photo art series "Sunshine and wind on the training ground" at the National Artistic and Press Photography Contest on the Vietnam People's Army and National Defense in 2024...

In 2021, the work "The Midlands Awaken" capturing Long Coc tea hill located in Tan Son district, Phu Tho province won the Silver prize at the international photo contest First Half of 2021 Smile World, bringing honor and a prize of 1,000 USD to author Bui Viet Duc.

Traveling a lot and discovering new lands, photographer Bui Viet Duc loves photography more and more. Along with creating artistic works, photographer Bui Viet Duc often inspires and teaches photography techniques to students of several schools in the province to help them develop their talent and passion for photography.
