( Quang Ngai Newspaper) - There is a song that was born during the anti-American resistance war, more than half a century later but still touches people's hearts. "Do you know in the Red River / My homeland also has a river...". Those are the two opening lines of a familiar song composed by musician Truong Quang Luc based on the poem of poet Hoai Vu, the song "Vam Co Dong". These two artists have a very special relationship, being co-authors, fellow countrymen and colleagues.

1.

Poet Hoai Vu spent a long time working in the South during the fierce resistance war. Among his works, the poem "Vam Co Dong" remained in the hearts of millions of people. He had the opportunity to tell us about the circumstances of the poem's birth on the battlefield. One night in 1964, he and his comrades were led by female liaison officers across the Vam Co Dong River. Surrounded by empty fields, the sound of enemy bombs and bullets resounded across the river. He could not forget the image of the female liaison officers taking advantage of every second and minute amid the bombs and bullets to get the group across the river to the other side. It was extremely dangerous and arduous, beyond description. His heart was filled with emotion and admiration. That night, he wrote in one breath about the river he had just crossed and the next day asked the liaison officer to immediately send it to the war zone in the liberated area of Tay Ninh , then continued to send it to the North.

In 1966, one night in the dormitory of cadres and workers of the Superphosphate Factory in Lam Thao (Phu Tho), musician Truong Quang Luc happened to hear a voice reciting the poem "Vam Co Dong" broadcast on the Voice of Vietnam Radio . It should be added that he was a cadre from the South, working as an engineer at the factory. And at that time, he had in his hand the Central Literature and Arts newspaper that published the poem. Too moved and happy to be in contact with a wonderful poem and an inspiring recitation, he immediately took out a pen and paper to compose music for some good and satisfactory passages in the poem. After just over an hour, the song "Vam Co Dong" was born. He said that before and after, he had never composed a song so quickly. And after a short time, the song "Vam Co Dong" resounded on the airwaves of the Voice of Vietnam Radio through the voices of two singers Tran Thu and Tuyet Nhung along with the station's female group.

Poet Hoai Vu said that in 1966, during a trip across the Vam Co Dong River, he turned on the radio he was carrying to listen to the news and happened to hear the voices of Northern singers performing a song. At that special moment, the emotion and joy that suddenly welled up in his heart at that time was indescribable.

During the anti-American resistance war, when the song "Vam Co Dong" was released, nearly a decade had passed, the two authors Hoai Vu and Truong Quang Luc still did not know anything about each other's background. After April 30, 1975, while visiting his family in Ho Chi Minh City, musician Truong Quang Luc took advantage of his limited time to meet poet Hoai Vu at the Liberation Literature and Arts Agency. The reunion was unexpected with joy and indescribable surprise. After that, after several meetings, musician Truong Quang Luc learned that poet Hoai Vu's real name was Nguyen Dinh Vong, from Quang Ngai. Surprisingly, Quang Ngai was also the hometown of musician Truong Quang Luc, it turned out that the poet and the musician were both from the same hometown of the An Mountain - Tra River, and were also co-authors of a song that was loved by the masses.

Shortly after the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, musician Truong Quang Luc transferred from the General Department of Chemicals to the Saigon Giai Phong daily newspaper. From the role of director of the Thu Duc Chemical Factory to the position of Head of the Science and Education Department of a major newspaper of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, he was not without surprises with the new job. But he quickly got used to the job because he was an engineer and had been a contributor to many domestic newspapers. Thanks to having two jobs in hand, he was quite helpful to the Party newspaper in the fields of science and education. When working as a journalist, he grasped a lot of information about the country and the world, the life rhythm of all classes of people... That helped him to have musical compositions close to reality, loved by the masses.

Another surprise came to Truong Quang Luc, musician and journalist. That is, not long after, when he arrived at work, he met poet Hoai Vu who was transferred from the City Party Committee to the Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper. The poet was appointed Deputy Editor-in-Chief, in charge of the Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper's literature. It was very suitable for Hoai Vu's ability, he had worked for many years in journalism and had a good command of Chinese, thanks to several years of studying in China. Now, fate has turned, the musician and the poet are working together at the Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper, a major newspaper in the country.

Both men are now retired, but still make time to see each other.
