On July 2, US Congressman Lloyd Doggett became the first Democratic lawmaker to publicly call on President Joe Biden to withdraw from the race for a second term in the White House.

The call came after President Biden's poor performance at the debate with Republican rival Donald Trump last week.
“Recognizing that, unlike Trump, President Biden’s first commitment is to the country, not himself, I hope he will make the painful and difficult decision to withdraw. I respectfully urge him to do so,” the Texas congressman said in a statement.
The call comes amid a wave of backlash from Democratic supporters concerned about the health of President Biden and his re-election campaign.
Most recently, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, a Democrat who once said Mr. Biden was “the only choice we have” to defeat Mr. Trump, expressed surprise at the current US President’s weak appearance during the debate on June 28.
Mr. Whitehouse asked the White House boss and his campaign team to be frank about their current situation.
Meanwhile, Rep. Debbie Dingell, a Democrat from Michigan, criticized President Biden's campaign over reports that he would resume his campaign and was considering holding interviews or press conferences to ease concerns about his health.
On June 30, CBS News released a poll showing that 45% of registered Democrats said the president should step aside for another candidate. For former President Donald Trump, 49% of voters had the same opinion about his mental health.
Not only members of the Democratic Party but also voters who support this party are very concerned about Mr. Biden's health.
Amid growing concerns, representatives of President Biden's campaign appeared en masse on political television shows on the morning of June 30 to defend the 46th owner of the White House.
Democratic Senator Chris Coons, a close ally and co-chair of Biden's campaign, defended the President on ABC News : "Biden is the only Democrat who can defeat Donald Trump."
Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock told NBC News that President Biden “has no reason” to give up.
The White House confirmed that Mr. Biden will meet with Democratic governors at 6:30 p.m. on July 3 (local time, 5:30 a.m. on July 4 Vietnam time) in the Roosevelt Room and there will be no press participation.
