Against the market trend, steel stocks surge

The market opened slightly up before falling more than 3 points to around 1,275 points. Investor sentiment was quite uncertain, causing the main indices to fluctuate around the reference level throughout the session.

MWG negatively affected the market by taking away more than 0.6 points in the morning session. Some other stocks also had a negative impact on the market such as BID, TCB, HDB, MSN... On the contrary, stocks such as VIC, HPG, SSB or CTR still tried to increase in price, creating support for the market.

At the end of the morning session on June 17, VN-Index decreased by 3.6 points, equivalent to 0.28% to 1,276.31 points. The entire floor had 144 stocks increasing and 273 stocks decreasing.

Entering the afternoon session, the market continued its negative momentum, causing red to cover the electronic board. At the end of the trading session on June 17, VN-Index decreased by 5.14 points, equivalent to 0.44% to 1,274.77 points. The entire floor had 169 stocks increasing, 275 stocks decreasing, and 60 stocks remaining unchanged.

HNX-Index decreased 0.8 points to 243.16 points. The entire floor had 91 stocks increasing, 96 stocks decreasing and 52 stocks remaining unchanged. UPCoM-Index increased 0.03 points to 98.09 points.

BID became a burden on the market when it lost 1.42 points, ending the session down 2.11% to VND46,500/share. Negativity dominated the banking group when VCB, TCB, HDB, VIB alone lost a total of 1.6 points and were in the top 10 dragging down the market. However, VPB, MBB, EVF, EIB, SSB still ended the session in green with an increase of around 1%.

Technology giant FPT also took away 0.7 points from the market, ending the session down 1.68% to VND128,800/share. The codes CMG, ELC, SAM, ST8 also ended the session in red. Meanwhile, VGI, ITD, SRA, ICT, VTK increased well, notably MFS increased to the ceiling price of VND47,400/share.

Similarly, MWG was not doing any better when it took away 0.4 points from the market, ending the session down 1.59% to VND62,000/share. Other codes in the retail industry such as PET, DGW, AAT, BMF, PIV, PSD also decreased by 1-2%. On the contrary, FRT still increased by 0.57% to VND175,000/share.

In contrast to the general market trend, the steel group emerged and led the increase. For example, HPG led the market increase by contributing more than 0.5 points. HSG and SMC both hit the ceiling, closing at VND25,150/share and VND15,000/share, respectively. The remaining codes mostly increased well.

The total order matching value in today's session was VND25,798 billion, down 30% compared to yesterday, of which the order matching value on the HoSE floor reached VND22,990 billion. In the VN30 group, liquidity reached VND9,459 billion.

Foreign investors net sold for the 8th consecutive session with a value of 767 billion VND today, of which this group disbursed 1,653 billion VND and sold 2,440 billion VND.

The codes that were sold strongly were HPG 147 billion VND, FPT 111 VND, VHM 102 billion VND, VNM 101 VND, HDB 101 billion VND,... On the contrary, the codes that were mainly bought were HSG 107 billion VND, SAB 90 billion VND, NKG 45 billion VND, EVF 42 billion VND, CTR 37 billion VND,... .
