After witnessing Hanoi city authorities lead water from West Lake to To Lich River on the morning of September 9, many people were excited and hopeful for the river's revival.
Having become accustomed to the image of black, foul-smelling river water, Mr. Tran Nguyen Ngoc, a resident of Nghia Do ward, does not believe that one day the river will be clean. To Lich River has a blue color again. For him, today is very special because for the first time he witnessed the clean water from West Lake pouring into To Lich River, changing the color of the river that has been submerged in water for many years. polluted by various types household waste
Sharing his feelings, Mr. Tran Nguyen Ngoc emotionally said: “The To Lich River has been quiet for many years, but today I feel like the To Lich River is singing, very joyful. The pollution is gradually disappearing, there is no longer a bad smell like before, the surrounding trees are also greener. I feel very excited”.
In his mind, Mr. Ngoc believes that To Lich River will be revived. According to him, the government has previously used chemicals to clean the river, but that is not enough. “Recently, the government has dredged and cleared the flow of mud that has accumulated for many years under the riverbed and brought new clean water into the river. Most importantly, we have collected all the wastewater flowing into the river, preventing the river from being polluted further,” Mr. Ngoc emphasized.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Hong Dung, residing in Group 21, Nghia Do Ward, Hanoi, expressed his joy at witnessing the green To Lich River again. In the afternoon, Mr. Dung took his fishing rod out to fish on the To Lich River, something he had never thought of. For him, fishing is only secondary, the important thing is that he can witness with his own eyes the water of West Lake flowing in, feel the fresh air, no longer the fishy, foul smell next to the river that has been polluted for many years.
Mr. Nguyen Hong Dung shared: "When water is led into To Lich River, I feel the river is much more open, less polluted and the landscape is cleaner."
Mr. Dung said that, in addition to adding clean water to the river, the most important thing is still people's awareness, especially maintaining the surrounding landscape and not littering the riverbed so that the river is always clean and the flow is not obstructed.
Not only do people feel happy when witnessing the changes of the To Lich River, Mr. Bui Ngoc Huyen, Deputy Head of the Department of Environmental Systems and Digital Transformation, Hanoi Drainage Company, also feels happy when seeing the river changing every hour.
As a person directly participating and coordinating with functional units to implement the To Lich River Cleaning Project, Mr. Huyen said that, in addition to the implementation of relevant levels, sectors and units, there needs to be the joint efforts of the community to protect the environment of rivers, not only To Lich River, with practical actions, specifically not to indiscriminately discharge waste into the environment, grease into sewer systems, canals, and riverbeds.
According to Mr. Truong Quoc Bao, Head of the Yen Xa Wastewater Treatment Project Management Board under the Hanoi City Technical Infrastructure and Agricultural Construction Investment Project Management Board, as of August 15, the company has completely collected all 245 wastewater discharge outlets into the To Lich River to the Yen Xa Wastewater Plant for treatment, and at the same time completed the dam project at Quang Bridge area, Thanh Liet Ward to ensure flow regulation and support the treatment of polluted water, put into operation from August 25.
Along with the water supply from West Lake to To Lich River, it is expected that before September 20, the unit will complete the final item to add treated water from Yen Xa Wastewater Plant to To Lich River, contributing to ensuring a stable water level, restoring the river's inherent clear beauty.
