Ho Chi Minh City residents are busy harvesting rice in the fields of the "diamond" land.

Located about 9km from the city center, the rice fields in Thanh My Loi ward, Thu Duc city are in harvest season. The rice plants are leaning in the wind, creating a beautiful picture in the heart of the city.

During harvest season, this place becomes more bustling than ever. People gather together to harvest the golden rice, bringing joy and hope to daily life.

“Unlike previous years, we only hired workers to harvest, but this year we have a rice harvester so it is much less difficult. This year, my family hired workers from Dong Nai, each crop is about 10 million VND,” said Mr. Le Van Hung (58 years old, Thu Duc City).

Mr. Liem Khuan (54 years old, from Soc Trang) said: “I have been farming and growing rice since I was a child. This job is very difficult, I don’t have the conditions so I just keep doing it. There are days when I cut a lot and earn nearly 1 million, every extra income is good.”

Farming is hard work, but for a living, many people still stick with this job year after year.

Workers carry each bag of rice onto the truck to transport it to the main road. According to Mr. Hung, this year, more than 2 tons of rice were harvested, all of which will be transported to Long An to be sold to traders.

Some other households keep rice for family use. According to Mr. Kim, rice cultivation not only brings income to the family but also contributes to preserving traditional agricultural cultural values.

Mr. Nguyen Van Kim (66 years old, Thu Duc City), a farmer with more than 20 years of experience in rice farming, shared: “Before, my family raised buffaloes without making any profit, but fortunately this year, the weather was favorable, the rice grew well, and the yield was higher than previous years. We are very excited because we have a bumper crop.”

During their breaks, the workers "buy joy" by fishing right in the rice fields.

“Every harvest, we not only harvest rice but also harvest memories and feelings attached to the land,” Mr. Hung expressed.

The people here are persistently preserving and developing the rice growing profession every day. Through each harvest, they not only bring home pure white rice grains but also preserve cultural values.
