Polish authorities said Chelsea and Real Betis fans clashed ahead of the Conference League final in the city of Wroclaw early on May 29, warning they would crack down on violence.

Footage on social media showed fans in the city centre throwing chairs at each other and getting into fights on the night of May 27 (local time).

Polish police said they were trying to identify the fans involved in an incident and had arrested a Spanish national after a brawl on the night of May 27. Three other Spaniards were arrested on the morning of May 28 after they pulled down the UEFA Conference League flag.

Last week's Europa League final between Man Utd and Tottenham was also marred by fan clashes ahead of the game in Bilbao.

"No tolerance for violence on our streets. I thank the police for their decisive action against hooligans wearing Chelsea and Betis shirts in Wroclaw. We warn you: if necessary, the police will be even more forceful than today," Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on X.

Polish police say people can feel safe thanks to the large police presence in certain areas.

Chelsea, two-time Champions League winners and six-time English top-flight champions, reached the final after securing fourth place in the Premier League on Sunday, thereby qualifying for next season's Champions League.

Meanwhile, Real Betis fans are rejoicing as the club reach a European final for the first time in their history and have the chance to overshadow local rivals Sevilla with their own success on the continental stage.

Hours before the match, in pouring rain, most fans ignored the violence.

"There's always a bad guy in a crowd of 50,000. We're enjoying every moment, we'll celebrate afterwards and hopefully the Chelsea fans will cry," said Juan, a Betis fan, in Wroclaw's old town square.

Another Betis fan, Maria, added: "We're not scared, we're happy. Most of us just want to enjoy the football and the game."
