Immediately after Le Quang Liem advanced past the fourth round of the 2025 Chess World Cup, his name once again received praise from the world of chess.
Notably, ChessTV, a reputable international chess website, published an in-depth commentary, pointing out a significant factor: "Le Quang Liem has suffered much injustice in the world of top-level chess."
According to ChessTV, the Vietnamese chess player possesses exceptional skills, having defeated almost all of the world's strongest players (including the four former world champions: Carlsen, Anand, Ding Liren, and Dommaraju).
Nevertheless, Le Quang Liem is not a truly prominent name in the world of top-level chess, even though he is consistently ranked in the top 20.
A prime example is the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour – a prestigious random chess tournament system founded by chess legend Carlsen – which "ignored" Le Quang Liem but invited many players with lower skill and rankings than him to participate.
Therefore, ChessTV believes that Le Quang Liem has suffered many injustices due to his calm personality, cautious and meticulous playing style, and his excessive "gentleness".
"The truth is that players who take more risks, have more compelling stories, and are more controversial will get more attention," ChessTV commented.
ChessTV's commentary received widespread attention from Vietnamese chess fans. However, conversely, most fans believe that Le Quang Liem has chosen the right path and should continue to maintain this style.
"Hopefully, Le Quang Liem will remain steadfast amidst the ever-changing currents of life, and not lose himself because of what others say. Keep maintaining your positive qualities," commented a reader named Tam on Tuoi Tre newspaper .
"Everything has two sides; going slowly leads to certainty, living a quiet life means less noise and attention, but always remaining stable," commented a reader with the username TL.
"Please remain calm and level-headed in the face of these kinds of comments. If you persevere, they'll judge you as lacking breakthroughs or dramatic moments. If you achieve breakthroughs or dramatic moments, they'll judge you as impatient and hasty," said a reader with the account daot****@gmail.com.

Not only fans, but also Ukrainian coach Mykhailo Vasyliev, who previously worked as a specialist for the Vietnamese chess team, commented: "Le Quang Liem has a personality that I think is very suitable for chess, which is calm, composed, and mature in any situation. In my experience, players like that will improve very steadily."
Shortly after this commentary, Le Quang Liem suffered a defeat against German player Alexander Donchenko in the 5th round of the World Cup on the evening of November 16th, thus missing the opportunity to qualify for the Candidates Tournament.
Nevertheless, Vietnamese fans believe that Le Quang Liem did his best in a World Cup where the strongest players were repeatedly eliminated.
"Even if he retires now, Le Quang Liem will still be remembered as one of the strongest chess players in the world, who once defeated Carlsen, Nakamura, Caruana, Ding Liren... I hope Liem stays strong, maintains his perseverance and consistency as before," commented a reader named Chess1805.
