Mr. Tran Tuan Dat (born in 1979, Doan Dao commune, Hung Yen province) owns the largest Koi fish school in the North with 5,000 fish, including Koi fish schools that have "settled" in Vietnam for nearly ten years, reaching a weight of up to nearly 20 kg/individual. There are Koi fish worth from several hundred million to billions of VND.

Having approached this noble fish line since 2015, at that time, the number of Koi fish players was very small and very few people were in business and distribution. Initially, Mr. Dat only researched and distributed hybrid Koi fish bred in Vietnam from purebred Japanese Koi parents crossed with carp. By 2017, when he had accumulated experience and had a contact with a younger brother from the same hometown who was in charge of technology at a Koi fish farm in Japan, Mr. Dat switched to purebred Japanese Koi fish.

“At that time, the Koi fish market was very rare, both fish and players were rare. The techniques for caring for and raising Japanese Koi fish in Vietnam were also very rudimentary. I imported fish, raised fish, and researched and searched for markets,” Dat shared.

The first batch of purebred Koi fish that Mr. Dat imported was 300 fish. The fish landed at Da Nang seaport, at midnight, Mr. Dat traveled from Hung Yen to receive the fish. Not yet prepared a pond, he took a risk to rent a pond from an aquaculture center in Quang Nam , and brought this batch of billion-dollar fish to raise.

“Without experience and the farming environment not meeting Koi fish standards, the first batch of fish I imported lost 2/3. But in return, I "bought" a lot of experience and valuable lessons.

Not discouraged, when the pressure was on his shoulders, he was determined to research and learn from everywhere to cure the remaining fish. Finally, he was cured. In 2018, he invested in a fish tank in Da Ton, anticipating the fish-keeping needs of the residents of the "rich street" in the Ecopark urban area. With increasing experience and reputation, he boldly invested in building a 1,500 m3 fish tank in Doan Dao commune to raise fish. Up to now, his facility has a total area of more than 2 hectares of purebred Koi fish tanks in Hung Yen and Quang Nam (old).

“Koi fish require a clean, circulating, well-oxygenated water environment. They suffer from common diseases like carp, so the treatment is similar to that of regular carp. However, it should be noted that Koi fish have a long life span, so the treatment process must ensure good health for the fish to develop stably, avoid shock and not reduce their life span. It is necessary to use a treatment method that does not leave harmful residues and post-treatment complications.

Koi fish raised in circulating ponds need to have appropriate concentrations of drugs or medicinal substances, which may be different from natural ponds as instructed by the manufacturer. Some diseases that are less noticed when raising carp for meat but need special monitoring in Koi include skin pigmentation loss; collapsed swim bladder; scoliosis; abdominal lipomas; and endocrine and digestive disorders that can affect the quality and lifespan of the fish,” Mr. Dat advised.

After more than 10 years of working with purebred Japanese Koi fish, Mr. Tran Tuan Dat is a reputable address for Koi fish in Vietnam. In addition to providing care and treatment services for Koi fish, he is also an expert in constructing ponds, fish tanks, setting up and designing garden spaces for customers with a luxury hobby - Japanese Koi fish.
