City people “Meet and help…”

The city has been experiencing constant rain and sunshine these days. On an afternoon at the end of June, amidst the hustle and bustle of people and vehicles on Hoang Van Thu Street, Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City, a motorbike caught the attention of many passersby because it was designed with a very large box at the back, with the words “Help When You Meet. Repair, Patch, Tow, Gasoline… Free” on 3 sides of the box.

The driver of that special car was a middle-aged man, dressed simply. With his charitable heart, he roamed many streets of the city, just so that in a moment among the bustling flow of people, he could help someone in difficulty, in need of quick, urgent support.

Those warm images and words spread a positive energy, arousing many emotions in anyone who saw them, and at the same time simply expressing the sincerity and kindness of the people in the city.

That image reminds many people of “Uncle Long District 9”. For over 15 years, every day, Mr. Long drives his beloved car, with the words “Long District 9, criteria for helping passersby for free” on the side of the car, slowly on the road, observing the surroundings, whenever he sees someone with a broken car, flat tire, out of gas or someone who has had an accident…, he pulls the car over to the side of the road, quickly supports and helps them.

In recent years, every day at noon, he chose to “settle down” in the Thu Duc University Village area (Ho Chi Minh City National University urban area) to help students. When helping people, he did not ask for anything in return, nor did he accept any monetary compensation, because he thought that when people were willing to share and help each other in times of trouble, life would become better and better.

Not only the elderly are enthusiastic and hardworking in volunteer work, but in recent years, the city has also seen the emergence of a number of young faces who stand out for their charitable activities, regularly helping the disadvantaged in society: Ho Khac Vinh (Vinh loves delicious food), Quan Khong Go, Tina Thao Thi...

Through charitable activities such as regularly visiting, helping, and supporting the poor and elderly workers; or with small but very specific actions such as buying meals, paying for medicine, supporting housing costs, buying and promoting products to help the elderly..., charitable activities have quickly spread on digital platforms, connecting hearts to many charitable hearts in society, so that everyone can join hands, contribute, and help those in difficult circumstances overcome hardship.

Just like that, small, kind actions are present, spreading throughout the streets, helping to inspire many volunteer hearts and warm the loving hearts of the community. All have beautifully demonstrated the humane and affectionate character of the city's people in the journey of joining hands to build and develop Ho Chi Minh City today and in the future.
