Investing nearly 200 billion VND to renovate Ninh Kieu wharf

Ninh Kieu Wharf was heavily flooded on the afternoon of October 7.

According to the People's Committee of Ninh Kieu ward, Ninh Kieu wharf park is the central public space of the city, adjacent to Can Tho river and directly connected to the walking street, ancient market, night market, museum, tourist wharf system... The park has a total area of over ^21,700m2 .

Ninh Kieu Wharf Park has the following items: 6 operating tourist boat piers, round houses, square houses operated by Can Tho Tourism Joint Stock Company, motorbike parking lots and public restrooms.

However, most of these items were invested and built before 2010 and are now degraded, no longer meeting the needs of exploitation and serving tourists, especially in the context of increasing number of visitors.

On October 7 and 8, Ninh Kieu wharf was heavily flooded in the morning and evening when high tide combined with seasonal floods.

According to Vice Chairwoman of Can Tho City People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, some other localities have spacious tourist wharves, exploiting river transport to serve tourism. Therefore, investment in renovating Ben Ninh Kieu Park is very necessary in the medium-term public investment 2026-2030.

It is expected that the Ninh Kieu wharf park renovation project will be invested in the 2026-2030 period, with a total capital of more than 192 billion VND.

Vice Chairwoman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep requested the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City to summarize the project to preserve and promote Cai Rang floating market, to build a new project for the next phase.
