The barber of Seville will become a "cultural ambassador" on the evening of October 16 at the Hanoi Opera House and on the evening of October 17 at the Hai Phong Opera House.
The Italian Embassy in Vietnam will treat the audience to this ballet, performed by the famous Artemis Danza dance company and directed by Italian choreographer Monica Casadei. The Barber of Seville is performed in a postmodern style.
The Barber of Seville will visit Hanoi and Hai Phong.
The organizers said that The Barber of Seville was chosen to continue the success of the introduction of the opera Cavalleria Rusticana in Hanoi last April. These are plays imbued with Italian cultural traditions, so they were chosen to participate in the series of activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Vietnam.
The performance is not only a boost to promote cultural and artistic exchanges between the two countries, but also an effort by the dance troupe and leaders to narrow the gap between academic art and the public, thereby spreading the beauty of Italian art and culture to Vietnam.
First performed in 1815, The Barber of Seville was initially met with ridicule and negative reactions from audiences. However, its second performance was met with enthusiasm. The Barber of Seville has since become a rare classic that is purely entertaining.
The play brings a light and absolutely relaxing atmosphere, so that the audience can immerse themselves and drift along with the play, laugh and sing loudly. With fast, intense and funny music, the adventure of the mischievous barber Figaro is gradually revealed. It is the journey of the cunning Figaro using all his intelligence and tricks to support Count Almaviva to help the beautiful Rosina escape from her evil guardian, so that she can reach the true love of her life.
A Different Version of The Barber of Seville
With the version of The Barber of Seville at the Hanoi Opera House on the evening of October 16, the work was not performed in the traditional ballet style. Writer Monica and the Artemis Danza dance company chose to retell the old story in a completely different style, a style that Monica defined as "action ballet" with a futuristic feel.
The "action ballet" The Barber of Seville will recreate modern Italian life through rhythmic, soft but no less intense and fierce movements. With a comprehensive combination of sound, light, costumes to the movements and expressions of the dancers, the dance company promises to immerse the audience in the intersection between the past and the present, where there is a vibrant and passionate atmosphere, with a funny but ironic old story. This is also a pride of the famous dance company Artemis Danza.
Overcoming all barriers of gender, appearance, ethnicity and religion, Artemis Danza's professional dancers will immerse themselves in the play with absolute concentration and graceful, rhythmic movements to portray the image of Figaro, a modern, successful man, always ready to face all challenges, flexible, skillfully solving every problem in life. This is also the reason why Artemis Danza's performance of The Barber of Seville has been praised by many European newspapers.
