Sharing at the seminar "Future labor trends - Opportunities for whom?" recently organized by FSB Institute of Management & Technology, FPT University, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien, Vice Chairman of the University Council, FPT University,   say when Seeing Open AI announce ChatGPT 4.0 Omni, he had many different thoughts than before.

Mr. Hoang Nam Tien believes that many people are at risk of falling into the "useless class" because of AI.

"I used to laugh at the stupidity of Chat CPT, then moved on to the stage of thinking 'it's terrible', and when I read the Omni version, I was really worried about my job. After Omni and Google IO were born, people suddenly realized that the rate of jobs being 'stolen' by AI skyrocketed in just 1 week, because the development speed was so fast" - Mr. Tien said.

"Currently, Chat GPT 4.0 has a data volume of about a thousand billion parameters (units of information measurement). The excellent people in this room only have about 20 - 40 million parameters. In terms of knowledge, ChatGPT or Google IO systems are now far superior to humans. The most excellent people in the world may be able to surpass ChatGPT in knowledge" - Vice Chairman of FPT University Council emphasized.

Vice Chairman of FPT University Council emphasizes the risk of workers losing their jobs at a very young age

Mr. Tien also cited some worrying figures. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicted at the World Economic Forum in January 2024 that by 2030, more than 40% of the workforce will be affected by AI. Another statistic said that in the next 5 years, 2.7 million Vietnamese workers will lose their jobs to robots.

"The expensive robots of the past are now only 30,000 - 40,000 USD, working 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, 365 days/year, not asking for 13th month salary or vacation, not protesting, not talking back to the "boss", the price of 1 hour of robot labor is about 2.5 - 5 USD/hour. There is a high risk that our workers will lose their jobs when they are very young. I am really worried" - Mr. Tien expressed.

"For those who are well-educated, even those in the intellectual class, they cannot be too confident. Even those of you sitting here can fall into a new class called the "useless class" - Mr. Tien noted.

Dr. Tran Quang Huy, Head of Training Department at FSB Institute of Management & Technology, commented that the story of career development in today's technology trend is much different than before. Businesses have high demands on digital capacity.

" Many businesses have now built a Digital Competency Framework. The Ministry of Education and Training is building and preparing to issue a Circular on the Digital Competency Framework for training students. The Ministry of Information and Communications is also preparing to issue a Digital Competency Framework. But businesses are not waiting for those documents. Individuals are not waiting for those documents. We ourselves must determine what needs to be done to prepare in advance. If we do not have clear career goals, we will fail" - Dr. Huy shared.
