According to some residents, sand mining involves the use of large-engine sand suction machines and floating ships to suck sand at many points on this section of the river, especially during holidays when this activity occurs more frequently. Some riverbank locations have shown signs of erosion; residents are concerned that the situation will continue if not controlled.
