Nguyen Anh Minh works as a caddy for a Singaporean player. |
The stadium is not easily accessible.
Having been in the UK since the beginning of the week, Nguyen Anh Minh and his father, Nguyen Dang Son, had already visited the two official stadiums of the tournament, Royal St George's and Royal Cinque Ports. However, accessing the stadiums encountered many obstacles due to the very high fees and especially because the stadium booking schedule had been full for many weeks.
Not wasting time waiting, Anh Minh proactively sought an opportunity to play on the course by asking to be a caddie for a close friend - Brayden Lee - an amateur player from Singapore, who was also one of the golfers who had booked the course in advance.
“If I can’t go to the course, I will carry the club for my friend. The most important thing is to walk 18 holes, see with my own eyes, feel the weather, wind level and terrain of the course directly,” Anh Minh shared with Tien Phong.
Royal St George's and Royal Cinque Ports are classic links courses on the south-east coast of England, which have hosted The Open multiple times. Strong winds at almost all times of the day, uneven fairways, tall rough and steep greens create extreme challenges for any golfer, let alone a golfer from a tropical climate like Nguyen Anh Minh.

Confidently entering the historic tournament
Today (June 15), Nguyen Anh Minh enters the official practice round. The golfer born in 2007 will have more opportunities to learn more about the terrain and competition conditions before entering the official competition day.
In round 1 tomorrow (June 16), Anh Minh will start at 7:40 (local time) at hole 1 of Royal St George's (par 70), in a group with Tim Wiedemeyer (Germany) and Brayden Lee (Singapore) - the friend he just caddied with.
Meanwhile, round 2 takes place at 12:14 on June 17 at Royal Cinque Ports (par 72).
The Amateur Championship 2025 brings together 288 golfers from 45 countries around the world. After two rounds of 18 holes of stroke play on two courses, the 64 golfers with the best scores will move on to the knockout round to find the champion.
